Full Freak vs Freak without the front?

Anybody ever done this? I just bought an Automag freak kit, and I'm wondering if I could not use the front and still have great results. Any input would be appreciated.

It doesn't work (at least with blowbacks); the insert is not held in well enough by the pressure of the sleeve, it relies on the tip to keep it from being forced out. Think about the slipfit barrels on a PPS Blazer... What happens when you haven't cranked down on the yoke that holds it?

A good alternative is the WWA (White Wolf Airsmithing, Joe White) 1" Freak tip. It's tiny, functional, and has a cool spiral muzzle break that's not too visually offensive and goes well with most markers.

Aside from the issue that Frizzle mentioned about the insert just shooting out...

What you are going to have is a very loud and in-efficent barrel. The porting on the tip helps a lot with the sound signature. It is also widely accepted that a barrel should be at least 8 inches long to allow proper acceleration of the paintball.
If it is just in your mind to try it...there are several two piece barrels out there with fixed bores.

It sorta works its way out of the sleeve more than anything, but once there's more than a hairsbreadth between the insert and the breach it'll start to chop and unless you have SS inserts, possible damage the edge of the sleeve.

In reality the tip has such a huge bore that it really does nothing for the acceleration of the ball, it is really just there to help with the sound.

If you just want a short barrel, pick up one of those small 1 inch tips. I know WWA made some that looked pretty cool, and I'm pretty sure Special Ops had some as well. Both looked more like a muzzle break than anything.

I have shot a few hudred rounds in an emergency situation (chopped and di not feel like cleaning out all the porting) without actually shooting out the insert
