    2nd hand air advice

i had hoped to get some second hand air tanks tomorrow, but here is the rub. they are due for a hydro, and from new they have been on a well populated paintball range. the price they are asking R100 ~ $9 / $10, wheras a new one here in South Africa will cost R750 (retail).

Is this a good deal, or should i hold my horses and get new WHEN i have some money?

thanking you in advance for your advice and wealth of knowledge

By "AIR" are you referring to Co2 bottles, or high pressure compressed air bottles?

If you're talking Co2, the deciding factor would be how much it costs to hydro a bottle in South Africa.

If you're talking compressed air, it depends on what type of tank (steel or fiber wrapped). Either way it may be worth it to buy the bottles just to part out the regulators.

You also have to figure in the chance of a bottle not passing hydro...did they have them in any kind of a tank cover or were they exposed to all the dings and dents of rental play?

The field is most likely getting rid of them because it would cost more to have them hydro'd than it would be to buy a new batch of tanks at a bulk discount.

agggg, yes, sorry not to give more info:

steel, 3000 psi. the small ones air =air (HPA) , not CO2 - thanks for checking

my local dive shop would charge R180 ~ $17 - 18 for the hydro. they would also consider a bulk deal, AND i might be able to do work for them to offset the charge

sounds like your getting a good deal. it doesnt matter if the tank is new or used, as long as the used ones pass hydro both tanks do the same job.
