Cutting carbon fiber with a hacksaw??

I've got a deadlywind carbon fiber foregrip and would like to shorten it a little bit. Can the carbon fiber be cut with a hacksaw like other materials such as plastic or wood could?

I am planning to clean up the cut with a file afterward.

I'm assuming this will be alright, but haven't ever worked with carbon fiber before so wanted to check.

you might destroy the blade, but i doubt it.

a new blade on a hack saw is like 2.50, so i wouldn't be worried about that.

making the cut clean and nice though might be an issue.

      Is it capped or?

Tape off where you are going to cut (on the good side, not the waste side) with a few layers of electrical tape. This keeps it from splintering.

Also, consider finding an appropriately sized dowel to stick down the extension thats relatively snug so you can avoid the fraying on the interior too.

You will probably need very fine teeth on the saw.

a high speed cut-off wheel may be better if u have one (dremels, air tools)

you will need to lightly epoxy the exposed fiber so it doesnt fray after cut, make sure you wear a mask it is caricenogenic

And then you can cut the foregrip off ......

              wait for it ....

All kidding aside, it would be better to use a power miter saw with a carbide tooth blade to cut it.

I use a reciprocating saw when I do them. use tape, fine blade, & super glue for the inside.
