    Perhaps you can find a small "split" washer that will fit in place temporarily?

    Otherwise, take a roll of teflon tape and roll it around just the top edge of the detent until it gives the shoulder you need to keep the tip of the detent out of the breech.

    Might also suggest that if you know someone that uses orthodontic rubber bands for their braces....
