    Automag at Tournament

Well I played in a local tournament yesterday. I had my ule mag with x-valve and I couldn't use it because the tournament was capped at 10 bps. I lucked out in a way I was able to use the gun of one of the workers at the store. A Bob Long branded Russian Legion, it shot like a dream. Anyway I've been racking my brain all day of how I could use my mag next time. Any ideas?

I was thinking about just buying a classic valve to throw in there for these occasions. Has anyone put an ule trigger pull kit in a classic valve? THe airgun web site says not to but the lone review says that it work great? What's the deal?

I have a lot of bounce in my x-valve. If I take out all the shims with it get rid of it? I'm still intrigued my the upgraded classic valve idea.

you should be able to remove your bounce by removing shims , how many are you running ??

Apparently it's too much trouble to try to get the ult to work with the classic valve according to most people who have tried it.

A classic with an RT on/off might work, tho the pull will be stiffer than yer ult. You might try goin the way of pneumags, as those remove the reactivity of the valves

        Wow

I just had a revelation. The shims in the bolt prevent leaks. The shims in the on/off deal with bounce. ??? Anyway. It came factory installed with what seems like 8 shims. Zero wont fire the gun so I'm just going to work my way up.

I used an adjustable tank on mine and was able to regulate it reliably enough to use it in a 15BPS tourney. The producer of that series was also a HUGE Mag fan.

Only thing I can think of is to find a Hyperframe and set it where you want.

Ya...What cat said. Keep the shims in the ULT and get an adj tank. At least you'll have the light trigger pull to walk it.

              im still confused a little
were you not aloud to use it because of the bouce or just because mags can shoot fast as mechs?
if it is because of the bounce
get a pneumag set up going and have a blazing mech (if they allow it of course)

                Both

The bounce is what kept them away from letting me use it. If it was one pull one shot I would have been fine.

So it looks like I have two options. Pneumag or Hyperframe? If I got the Hyperframe I would probably just build up a classic mag. I would love to have a classic mag ripping at that speed.

im slowly putting together a pneumag and hoping to get into a local touny with another AO'er or two and be an all mag team
                  one touney with pneumags
                  another with emags
                  another with...whichever...

If you build the pneumag it is still technically a mech, and then you should be able to go as fast as you want to. At least that's how our local tourney is. I ran into the same problem at a tourney this year, I was a little upset that you could use software to hit 10.5bps(ramping), but I couldn't use my X, bouncing around 8-9bps. Doesn't make much since to me, but that is the way it is. The rules do state though if it is a mech the rate of fire is uncapped. So I have a winter project in mind, and I will show up with a mag again next year at the first tournament with a little surprise for them. I can wait to hear em cry about it !!!

Seriously bro...I would go the pneu route but it would be much cheaper just getting a adj reg. Use air pressure to manipulate the bounce and best of all, no batteries to screw you over in the middle of a tourny.

Honestly this just blows my mind. When I quit playing competitive speedball (~3 years ago) I was about ready to shelve my mag because I couldn't keep up with the ridiculous paint ropes. Now, mags are banned from tourneys for being too fast.

                        Crazy times I tell ya!

odd...just played a tourney this weekend and everyone on the team has mags, x-valves, retro valves, some with ULT's.
Modified PSP rules and not one word was said about our gear, and all the refs are PSP certified.
I find it hard to believe this actually happens

Sounds like the tourney staff may have been either prejudiced against Mags or just ignorant about how bouncy X-Valves can and can't be. What kind of tank and reg were you using? With my standard Dye and Crossfire regs at 800 psi, I doubt I could bounce my trigger more than 8 bps. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the heavy bounce doesn't come unless you're dumping 1000 psi or more into the valve, right?

yeah, very confused. sounds like that field is no good. A xvalve mag is tourney legal. Should not have been a problem. Perhaps did you shoot it with bouce in front of them? Or tell them about it? 99.99% of the time a stock mag with X valve is legal regardless of a ball cap, its Mech 100%. mech's are not regulated by a cap. Sounds like this field was the .01% of uneducated/confused. Never have heard of this before. BTW I am a PSP certified ref. I guarentee you, you can play any PSP national event in any division with your gun.
