Aliens VS Predator Senario (PLZ Help!)

    Hey guys,
I work at a field and we have been doing OK as far as attendance but obviously the way things are w/ money and what not it always helps to have extras and cool events to bring people out and either get them into paintball in the first place or re-kindle that flame for people who used to play. I have been throwing around a few ideas for a scenario game to get some more people out over the past few weekends and the owner seems very interested. I have done quite a few large events public and private but nothing or this magnitude. To be honest I would be happy w/ a turnout of even 100-200 players. I am looking for any input or ideas that people have to make this better. It is a very large property almost entirely woods ball w/ a lot of bases and bunkers well spread throughout the near 900 acres.

I have a decent idea of how to make things work but am very open to both player input as well as field manager/owner input. My main objective is to get a good turnout to an event that is run very smoothly so that new and experienced players alike have a great experience that they would like to repeat.

    Here are the field specs:
    1. Fairly large shaded parking area about the size of a football field
    2. They offer drinks and snacks(no serious meals typically unless its a private party)
    3. (1) 3000 PSI fill station(may have access to several scuba tanks for on field refill)
    4. Co2 Fills
    5. Accept Visa/MasterCard and obviously Cash
    6. About 20-25 Working rental Packages of various type mainly Model 98s
    7. Close to 10 staff members will be available possibly more if needed
    8. 15 Major bases w/ various bunkers around and between bases spread fairly evenly throughout the central property

    Questions that I have:

Do you think it is a good idea to have a scuba tank or 2 @ each teams home base in case there is a big fire fight so people may not need to walk all the way back to the staging area?(about a 1/4-1/2 mile hike from either main base) and should the amount of times that those tanks are filled be limited so that it makes it easier on the staff and so the teams use those fills more wisely?

How should re spawn and insertion be done? I was thinking of having a taped trail to the re spawn from both starting bases so that when you were shot out you walk to the nearest taped trail follow it to the re spawn and then once you are re spawned you follow it back to your starting base?

How should the point system work and any ideas for special themed objectives/missions?

When you think of the best scenario game that you played what stands out the most, as far as how the field went out of their way to accommodate you?

Any ideas for making ID cards and theme specific roles apart from the obvious commander/spy/medic roles?

How and when should the lunch break be taken?(whenever they want it or everyone must break @ the same time.)

If there was a assigned lunch break how long should it be for?

Should player to player radio communication be allowed?

    Medics or no Medics?

If medics are allowed what is a good ratio of medics to players?

Are people more likely to play if field paint isn't required?

Is it worth it for the field to provide lunch or is it more hassle than it is worth?

Should Grenades (high pressure water balloons, not explosive based) be allowed?

If Grenades are allowed should there be a limit or maybe should only specific player be allowed to use them?

Things that I know will have to be rules:

    No Tanks

    No Rocket Launchers

    No Select fire or Full-Auto

No Pyrotechnics or Smoke Grenades or any type

Please feel free to give any advice you may have. I am very open and would love for this to be a great event and possibly repeat it in the future. If you can think of anything that might make the event better or more player friendly please don't hesitate to jump in. I am mainly looking for mission ideas and game dynamics that would make things more fun on the field, but if you have any off the field tips for making things run smoother those are equally appreciated! Thanks in advance and Best Wishes!

    1) Absofraginlutely. If you can get air in the dead zones, that's a no-brainer.

My favorite spawn/reinsertion is the D-Day style. You go to the DZ when you're out, DZ cycles every 1/2 hour, and you spawn right at the DZ.

Point system is going to have to be up to you. You have to know a field to work a scoring system for it. You can, however, use it to encourage the game to move around the field. It works very well to have the battle spread out over the entire field in the beginning and end with a final, cataclysmic battle in the center zone.

Themed missions could be: Destroy (take the flag at) Alien colony hive, Destroy Marine outpost, predator landing zone, etc. They could also be given special when a DZ is spawning, ie: Attack reinforcements at "XY" DZ on the other side of the field as they're spawning. End with a final mission mirrored by all sides. Something like "Defend/Destroy central Alien hive.

I'd only do "roles", especially medics if it's a small game, under 300. I'd completely drop spies with an AVP theme.

I'd encourage folks to stay on the field however possible, even if that includes having a grill and hot-dogs in the DZs. When you call a lunch-break for everybody, you loose valuable momentum.

Sure, allow player communication. Reserve ref/emergency channels.

Field paint...all I know is that D-Day requires it. You have to decide how much you want to make off the event per player, then divide that out between rentals, admission, paint, and misc. stuff. If your field has a good reputation, I'd go for it because people will trust you to have good paint at reasonable prices.

Lunch again? Hey, if you can make $1.50 on a freaking hot dog when the whole pack costs that much, go for it.

Unless you have faith in the honor system, you're going to have to have a fair amount of refs on hand to make grenades work. See the latest Whiteboard comics for a further dissertation on grenades.

Somebody is doing an AVP game already I think. I'm sure you could talk with them.

Here are some recommendations that I've come up with to help you out, in no particular order:

        1) You'll need a few fill stations if you're planning to have 100-200 people there. The last thing I want to do is spend 20 minutes waiting behind ten people to fill my tank up.

        2) Speaking of lineups the last scenario that I went to had one problem: they only had ONE chrono! With that many people possibly showing up onto the field you MUST have multiple chronos going at the same time or else people will stand in line even longer than for air! It's actually quite frustrating when that happens...

        3) Dead zone fill stations are a great idea, however you need to keep a ref there for safety purposes.

        4) IMO you should include a free BBQ lunch for everyone, if it's possible. Nothing is better than walking off the field into a free hot lunch with a cold drink! I'd say lunch should be at least an hour for everyone at the same time, and obviously in between games. Oh and maybe give the teams a heads up on the next mission so they can start plotting.

BTW there doesn't need to be much of a variety for the free lunch, smokies and some pop/water will work just fine.

        5) 20-25 rentals? I'm assuming you'll have registration for this so you should make it very clear that you need to reserve a rental if you need one. You don't want a bunch of people showing up only to turn back since they don't have a gun to use.

        6) Points system depends on the scenario and the field.

        7) The only role that I'd consider for the game would be the medic, commanders and spies are tricky to implement properly. Although, squad leaders with radios might be kinda cool...

        8) As for paint, I think it depends on what the standard is around your area. If most of the fields play BYOP then it would be wise to do the same, if its FPO then it's optional.

        9) Grenades should be fine since most people won't have them, they don't work properly all the time, and they're hard to use effectively. I don't think limits or restrictions are necessary on those.

        Hope some of that helps!
