Re-hydro first-timer!

I have three tanks that are officially outdated now... I'm sure they will all pass inspection, but I am curious: Do I have to remove the reg before taking them to the place? I think I will be taking them to a scuba place in town, which is where I was told by locals to go.

How much can I expect it to cost? How long does it normally take?

Have a 68/45, a 45/45, and a 68/3.

I will call the place once I remember the name of it and can look it up, but until then, is this going to be a shop-specific experience or are they normally pretty similar everywhere you go?

I have used www.hydrotester.com with alot of sucess. they are quick, and cheap IMO. I remove/install all of my regs. if you dont feel comfortable doing it let someone else do it.

I use my local Fire Saftey company , they test everything from fire ext. to 6K nitrogen bottles , they charge 22.50 if it has a reg in it 17.50 if you take it out

Check prices at the shop yer thinkin about. If u can, remove the regs yourself, some places are a lil rough with the removal and can scratch the reg.
In town places can usually do it within a couple hours, tho it'll depend on the place and how busy the day is.

I've sent 5 tanks into hydrotester.com. From the time they went out to the time they got back it was less than 7 days. Good service. But yeah, if you can find someone local that does hydro testing like a fire service or scuba shop, you may be able to save a few bucks. Though my local scuba shops charge $40 to hydro a paintball tank.

I let the guys at Ninja Paintball do it. They're local for me, so it gets done pretty quickly and I can pick it up and drop it off. They also remove and replace the reg and will replace the reg without threadlocker at your request. They're good, trustworthy guys.

Otherwise I like the look of hydrotester.com

I'm no considering this, just curious: If you send in a tank with say... 2 years left before it needs a test, will it just reset the test date for another 3 or 5 years depending on the tank? Has anyone done that? haha

I would think it just "resets" from the time it gets tested. So if the hydro is up in '11 and it's a 3 year tank, if you send it in now it would be up in '12. Best to wait till it's out/almost out of hydro.

I used a local fire equipment company too. Cost me $20 an a few cents.
