Out of hydro C02/steel hpa....What do to?

What does everyone else do with their out of date c02 and steel hpa tanks? I was selling a crossfire 47/3000, and i was informed they are around 50 new. Why get it hydro'd if it costs about the same (with shipping back and forth) to get a new one, same with the Co2. I normally just buy a new or newer used co2, and i run a flatline on my main setup. What does everyone else do with the old tanks, i figured to just add them to my scrap aluminum...what are the other options or ideas.
    Main setup:
    Automag RT
    Level Ten(wanted)
    Intelliframe-blade
    Dye Stickies
    AGD flatline
    Red's tank cover
    Cp Flame Drop
    Viewloader Revolution
    10" Dye SS
    Armson Stealth
    12" all american (ruined)
    Dye Invision (wanted- red)

Well if you have either 9oz or 20oz CO2 tanks you can do the Blue Rhino tank exchange program that is currently being offered at Lowes. You can either exchange the tank for a new in hydro tank at a minimum cost or get store credit.

There's a place here in Ohio that does them called Aqua Hut. I have had a couple done and they charge $16+ shipping. Website is www.aquahuthydro.com. If you send the tanks in chepest way and remove the valves yourself, it might run you $25-26 total.

Also, from my understanding, 9 oz tanks don't need rehydro as they fall under the less than 2"diameter rule.

Theres a fire equipment company locally that will do scuba, paintball and CO2 tanks for 20.00.
While I know its not worth it for the CO2 tanks it is for the paintball and scuba tanks.

Check with your local fire equipment/fire extinguisher company.

Sales are slow and times are tough now and companies are looking for other revenue streams.

Couple years ago fire equipment companies didnt have time to take paintballers money for
hydro testing, now they are advertising on craigslist in sporting goods, search "paintball".

I called blue rhino also, because i always have problems dealing with Lowe's employees in area. She said it's in the Kobalt tool area, they take 20 oz co2, doesn't matter if the tank is out of date, and it's should be around 8 bucks. I'm going to gather my tanks, and give it a shot to trade them in. I just wonder......their tanks are in date, I guess it doesn't matter, cause you can just keep going back....but i thought maybe i'd get a tank has only a year left on hydro. Anyway a normal 20 oz fill is around 5 bucks....so for 3 bucks more you get a good tank..... seems good

Does the 2*2 rule only apply to alumium and not steel?

                        I wouldn't bother

You can get a couple used CO2 tanks for $25 that are in hydro and you can get a 47/3000 air tank on Ebay (in hydro) for just over $30.

Now, if it's a 45/4500 or 68/4500 or more...then I'd pay to get it hydroed because those tanks used are at least $50 and it's only $30-$40 to get them hydroed.

Has anyone tired the swap at lowes? I was there the other day. I didn't have my tanks with me, but i thought i'd look in to it. Their kobalt tank is prefilled with 16 oz of co2. But the guy that worked there thought it had to be a Kobalt tank. So i'm at a loss, He said it has to be a kobalt tank....and blue rhino says any....i would think the girl from blue rhino would know more about it.....but who knows.

                            Yes. I have.

                            It's a toss up. Some Lowes store are total jerks about it...see this thread;

                            Link to MCB review page

Some are OKay with it and others are hit and miss. I had wasted my lunch time going to the one in Milford MA after I called Blue Rhino the day before to make sure I did everything right. Same runaround...the exchange tanks have to be bought there they told me. I called Blue Rhino and a few days later when my friend went there with like 20 tanks they were cool about it.

There's a flip book they're supposed to use that outlines the entire procedure, with bar codes. The employees aren't supposed to think about it, they're just supposed to go ahead and do it.

The first time I went to a Lowes it was during the day and the two old women behind the counter didn't want to take any responsibility. The next time I went it was Friday night and the two teenagers didn't care and the transaction went smoothly. I "exchanged" 9x 20oz tanks and got a gift card with almost $260 on it.

The Blue Rhino tanks aren't anything special. They're just normal tanks with shrink wrap on them. The "hydro" date is listed on the shrink wrap...there's more details in the link usagi_tetsu provided above.
