I think splash can be done well, but usually isnt. When done right i love it. The im such a sucker for the old school SP splash kits. I loved um when they came out in 97sh, and still do. Wish i didnt have to have mine up for sale.

new style splash
I recently purchased a new Bob Long from ANS. It has the new version of splash called blue marble. Its not quite like the old Smart Parts splash that I love so much but it's a good attempt to revive something old with a new twist. Pics are to big so here are the links:

Back in the day, guns came in varying shades of black and gray. SP was looking to make a few bucks, so why not put some color in the world? PTP's stuff is a bit more unique, since the guns and patterns were made independently of the guns' original manufacturers. Fast-forward to present, and every single splash kit and PK'd micro is at least ten years old. They're unique today because there are fewer of them.
Some like the patterns/colors, some don't
Some respect the old-school goodness
Some like the attention
I liked the challenge of tracking down the individual parts to make a complete set
I like purple, too
