    Stainless Steel coloring

I just got a classic mag with a stainless steel powerfeed body and what I beleave to be a single trigger cf frame. It came with a nice stainless steel barrel that is a redish orangeyellow acid wash and it looks great.

I would like to know if anyone knows a company that can do that to the rest of the gun as well as a pump handle and maybe a 12gram changer. I dont recall ever seeing any ss bodies that where "annoed" like this, I have seen many that where powder coated and such but nothing like what I'm talking about. I will try to get pics up in a bit of the gun so you can see what I'm talking about.

I know it cant be annodized. I was wondering what my options for achieving the same color finnish on the ss body. After looking at the barrel it my be aluminum but theres rush on the inside of the breach area which made me think it was stainless to begin with. Heres a pic of the barrel that I want to match everything to.

That looks like an AA Barrel which I don't ever remember them doing those barrels in SS. I was going to say put a magnet to it but I'm pretty sure SS isn't magnetic.

Depends on the type of SS. Some alloys are magnetic, depending on composition.

Traditional anodizing ain't gonna touch stainless of any kind. You may be able to get an aluminum IVD (ion vapor deposit) coating over the stainless which may then be anodized.

Check out http://www.titaniumfinishing.com/page04.htm for one company that does this. My company has worked with them several times, and they do very decent work. I've never tried to get them to do a splash anno on aluminum though, just straight engineering grey hard on batch titanium parts.

                    On a side note

There are ways to give SS a blur finish that involves some not so nice chemicals and lot of heat. There are also ways of using just chemicals to do a black finish. I had toyed with the idea of giving this stuff a shot a while back. my intent was to do black splash designs on SS parts I was planning to simply thicken the solution with a gelling agent and putting it on in the same manner as a the mask done when anodizing... over all I ruled this out as I felt there would be no market for it "but what do I know I chose to do anodizing" heh

Not sure if this was in the least bit helpful

The process is referred to aa blacking oxide or oxidizing something like that sure. A good search on Bing would find it in no time.

Get translucent powder coat over mirror polished metal. Looks just like anno, and might actually wear better in some cases.

Both these guns are translucent powder coat over mirror polish.

Probably the only way you're likely to get a finish that can match that barrel anywhere close.

The barrel is definitely aluminum. The powdercoating Robert talked about is just about the only option to get close to it with your SS body for a reasonable cost.

In my experience, it costs very much in line with anodizing. The polishing step adds up.

That might be the path I take. I was thinking about getting it painted with automobile grade paint and clear coat, but this may be cheaper. Can you point me in the right direction on who to contact?

Also thanks for all the ideas. I knew that this group would pull through for me.

This was powder coated? They should be able to do that to that classic valve too! Anyone know where he got that MicroMag done?
