    Paintball Charleston Vacation

So I decided to leave from Pa this past Monday and head to Charleston, S.C. to drop my stepson off with his dad. I figured since I was in the area I would contact Skeeter the owner of Paintball Charleston. They are the foremost shop in the south that still stocks Mags on the wall and all kinds of accessories for them. Well my first night in town I caught up with Skeeter and we hit a few of the local watering holes. We actually saw a small dog on a table and found out he's a regular.

The next day started with us launching his boat and going out for the day sight seeing with Danny, one of his refs. Later in the day we picked Geoff who was in school in the morning. Tim is very knowledgeable about the area and I received a first class history lesson. We got to see some amazing sights along the way. I'm real sure the beer and fried chicken helped alot to.

After sight seeing and cleaning the boat up we had dinner at Tim's house. His wife is the most amazing cook. Jumbalaya done right. On Wednesday I headed to the field for an afternoon of rec ball. 50 + acres of scenario goodness, and for a Wed. afternoon we still had 30 players. I never played the same game twice or the same field in the 4 hours I was there. That night I headed south to stay with a friend in Savannah, GA.
I guess my point of telling this story is to thank Tim and all the staff at Paintball Charleston. They run a top notch establishment with the most hospitality I've ever received traveling out of town to a field. They are actively keeping the Mag scene alive in the southeast. Anyone who thinks paintball is dying and a field cant be kept alive needs to go here and check it out. I honestly believe if more fields were as gracious and courtious as PBC the sport would do much better. I also want to thank Geoff Call for the best reg I've yet to own. It is from Rehvac and is completely adjustable from 150-1200 psi output with just the turn of a wrench. There is no taking the reg apart and changing springs or adding shims. It really brought my mag to life. Thank you again PBC and see you in August.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

I wanted to stay but have an EPL tourney up here on Sunday. I'm coming back in August to pick up stepson so I will be staying longer and playing the weekend for sure.
        Thanks,
        Jeremy

man I miss living in charleston. my local field is OK, but charleston was just amazing. skeeter's a great guy, sold me my first mag.

Do they still have that strange rule where nothing below the knees/elbows counts as a hit? Strange rule, but still AWESOME FIELD!

yep that rule is in place so that new people get a chance to play and have fun some before getting out. i think it is a good rule especially for a field that sees large numbers of new players regularly.

Hey... Thanks Jeremy... Glad you could make it (and my "real job" schedule cooperated). It's always fun to play tour guide around the area. Lots to do and see. Yes, my boat does not run without beer (sometimes margaritas) & fried chicken on board! We should be able to see more of Charleston in August, including a pub-crawl, by boat!

Any news on your Nov schedule? Our fall scenario is usually our big production for the year. It's worth the drive!

lol... Yes, we still have that rule, for most rec ball games. Scenarios & tourneys get the "normal" rules... We have also been playing a few "zombie" games, where it's head shots only for one team. Then we mix that with a "civil war" style (stand up, no cover, long ball) game, and it's all sorts of fun!

What we have found, is that players are happy to stay in the game a bit longer when hits below the elbow/knee don't count. It gives the newer players a few extra minutes in the game, and it gives the veteran players more of a challenge, since they can't just shoot someone's toes, under a building, etc. It doesn't translate well to speedball, or even scenarios, since it lets players get "sloppy" with their hands & feet, but for rec ball, it seems to work well for us. As long as players can adjust to the different rules based on the format of the game, then everyone is happy.

BTW... You still up in the Chicago-land (or was that eastern Iowa)area?
