9V's in an Emag? You're kidding me, right?

I was flipping through a 2005 issue of Paintball Magazine the other day, and at the back they had the section where they would list all the different guns and have a blurb about them. I looked up the E-mag and it says "Runs on an 18v battery pack or two 9v batteries".. No way, one, the E-mag pack is 16.5v, but unregulated so you're looking at 18 to 20.5v, and two, 9v batteries are weak sauce!

So.. is this statement true, or is my scepticism justified?

There is the question of can it and then there is the question of should it.

I am sure you could run it on two 9V's but for how long would it run? The storage capacity of the multi-cell E-mag packs is far greater than that of 2 9V's. There is someone on this forum that is more intimate with the math than I am. I'm sure they'll surface.

I thought Tom had made a custom emag running 9v's for the warriors. Turns out it was the stock battery, just displaced.
Warriors Emag - Oh I miss seeing updates pop up on the prototype lab.

You might get the emag to work on two 9v batteries, but it would be unreliable at best. 9V batteries don't have the C rating to deliver the necessary current on demand that the solenoid requires. You might get a single shot or two if you are lucky and your setup is tuned to perfection, but you won't get a sustained burst of shots.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
