pot metal frame finish?

so what exactly is the finish on the black pot metal frames? are they just painted?

stock ones were painted for sure. i wonder if there were two different kinds of metal frames though? i have one that feels like aluminum. i'll have another metal frame that was sent out for media blasting; i'll have to see if that one feels the same way or if it's heavier.

there were some that were anodized though, so at least some of them had to be aluminum.
