Can a ULE body be milled to accept twist lock barrels?

Is there enough metal on a ULE body to mill out the barrel threads and punch a hole in the bottom for the twist lock pin? Would the feedneck line up with the hole in the barrel, (assuming a vert feed barrel) or would that need to be modified too?

I have asked this before and been told no. BUT I do not own one to say yes or no.

I think the main problem would be how thin the body would be after milling it, particularly for the bottom part, where the screw holds the body to the rail.

it looks like it could to me, but whether anybody can do it, or if it would be strong enough afterwards to hold up to normal play, those i would not know. you would also need to drill a hole in the bottom to make room for the twistlock pin to come up.

it would be better to just get whatever twistlock barrel you want cut for autococker threads.

or, just ditch the idea entirely lol.

          Ok, why?

You need to still have centerfeed barrels or modify existing ones to lock in on the center feed. The detents would not work, and its doubtful you could plug it, so you would literally have a hole in the side of the gun.

It is far easier, taking a non-powerfeed twistlock body and turning it into a center feed body than what i imagine you are trying to do. If, you are trying to keep anno'd barrels from say, an Eclipse kit, on a ULE body. You can talk to XMT about having the twistlock barrel cut to cocker threads.

But i do wish to hear why...

No, it can't be done because there isn't enough material to counter bore the body.
That's specifically true for a ULE Warp body and I'm sure it would be the same answer for the vert ule bodies, I just dont have one to check.

What about starting with a TAC-One body?

As for why I don't really have an answer other than I have always considered twist lock one of the main advantages of the Automag. The detent hole would be unsightly, yes. Or it could be potentially modified into housing a locking mechanism for the barrel, with the corresponding slot milled into the barrel.

I already have centerfeed twistlock barrels. Not interested in converting them to cocker threads, I have plenty of those too.

I asked about doing it a long time ago, more for anno options than anything, but if you want it just for weight savings, you can cut weight off elsewhere more easily. If you want vert feed, Luke can modify steel bodies (unless he's stopped offering the service) or you can find vert-feed steel bodies (rare, but they pop up occasionally)

I'm not doing those any more.

Threaded barrels are so much better it's not even funny.

Doubtful but I don't have one to measure.

well, if you want tl barrels that badly, i'd just use a stainless body (either classic, or emag / rtp). if the rail you want to use can't accept the body you want to use, luke can mill it (or for a bit more, just get the rail ule milled). if you want centerfeed, i think the cheapest option would be to get a centerfeed emag / rtp body.

Just be patient, one of Lukes modded vert feed stainless bodies comes up every once in a while.

Just be ready to buy a whole marker if you have to, to get a part you want.

I see a good number of vert feed emag bodies here and there, mcarterbrown has a number of people with stockpiles as well
