His excuse that the tap didn't go deep enough sounds like BS. I am not certain how these tanks are manufactured but I see no reason why they would be tapped for threads after the metal part is already in the tank. This would leave a huge amount of trash (metal filings, cutting oil) inside the tank that would be nearly impossible to remove.

It seems far more likely that the inserts are threaded first, and then put into the tank after being inspected. I find it highly unlikely that something resembling that would ever intentionally make its way into a tank.
    My feedback

Made in USA - it matters.

interesting mental puzzle figuring out what it could be. really strange. gotta be the back of a regulator or something ... something that was able to thread in, then break off, and must be threaded back out. if it was small enough to fall in, then it would be small enough to fall back out ...

If it was my personal tank I would have cut it with long neck side cuts after it happened and got it out. But at this point in the game. Coming from a strange individual. It would have to be removed. And the tank re hydroed for me to consider trusting it.

The first mistake was putting loctite on the tank reg. You should NEVER put loctite or any other sealant on the tank. They are not designed for that, and can even endanger the user to possible tank/reg failure.

Regardless of what the piece of metal could be, you should send it back and put a warning to anyone else on that forum that the tank is unsafe. So the seller won't resell the tank to someone who doesn't know.

i wouldn't worry about it personally, but something inside would annoy me though.

I'll double check, but I do believe it's threaded all the way through.

Ninja loctites the reg on the bottle after hydro testing. Can't be ALL bad if the manufacturer does it.

Back in the day Air America use to loctite their regs too.
