    Deadlywind Dallara #38 Build

Now that she's pretty much done, I figured I would put together a little build thread. Not sure if there are even enough AO'ers still around to enjoy this, so I'm mostly doing this for me

    The Journey
Last year, I came back into the paintball fold again, after lurking an awful lot for 5 years. I started attempting to track down some of the old bodies that I used to love and even owned before while I was on a hiatus from working on the road. My search lead me to SummaryJudgement's Chord Emag for sale. We managed to come to an agreement for the Chord V2 body, and then in a matter of pure luck he also offered to sell a Dallara body and rail. YES! I've hit paydirt! Another quick paypal payment and I was the proud owner of Dallara body number 38. Here she is in all her glory:

And of course the money shot:

The Logic frame had to go, and I was wanting to recreate a Dallara Hypermag that I had built over a decade ago, so I found a nice little Morlocked Hyperframe for sale, and pieced together a glimpse of what was to be. Many long nights and weekends helped fund this photo.

A few searches later and I think I had found where this build was going to end. Ordered some goodies from Luke, and my Dallara build was nearly completed. She also was on the backburner, as I had finally completed a CNC Xmag that I was piecing together in my spare time. I had anno fever, and I thought my Xmag would satisfy that itch.

A few months passed, and the Anodizer I had chosen was still backed up. My anno fever, still untreated, turned its gaze towards my Dallara. So I picked up a 15 degree asa (courtesy of Mr. Fantasy) to better complete the build, decided on the CCM Feedneck, and broke down the mag so that the parts would be all wrapped up ready to go. A quick snapshot of the parts was taken and a request put in with Caustic Customs.

    The Anno Inspiration
Caustic had done a few anno schemes that I really liked. One of them was this Chord Mag:

I still want to recreate this with a little more "electric blue" look.

But for some reason this anno caught my eye:

I decided I wanted a scheme based on this. Nothing against red, but this one needed to be blue, and I wanted to reverse the anno. Blue to Black with Silver smoke it is! The anno was almost scheduled, but something didnt quite feel right. The hyperframe, while nostalgic, didn't quite feel right. I tried. I had it all packed, and really wanted to ship it, but it still felt off. About that same time, a few VER's were coming up for sale. I scored one for a sweet deal after some negotiating with Hollywood0728, and the final piece felt like it was in place.

    Getting Anodized
And she was off! I insured the hell out of that box and hoped I didn't need to make a claim on that amount. A few weeks later, I got a teaser of my Mag in progress:

Dear lawd, I was excited. Soooo shiny! This, by the way, did not help my issue with patience. I was dying to see my mag completed, and each day dragged on. I needed a distraction, and one came in the form of a rare Emax valve sighting from good ol' Smilestyler. Had to pick it up for this build, there was no question.

Finally, that sweet sweet Facebook post on Caustic's page rang in loud and clear:

She was done!!!!! And boy did he deliver!! Ever so carefully I set out to assemble this masterpiece. This dallara needed a friend so I found her some company too.

I cannot do this anno or this gun justice. I've got some CCM air fittings coming to accent it, and haven't quite decided whether to keep the Retents on this gun or get some replacements, but she is sure to turn some heads in any case.

    The Sweet, Sweet Payoff Pictures
As I did in August's MOTM Thread, I introduce to you... Dallara #38
    • Deadlywind Dallara Body and Rail
    • CCM Feedneck
    • EMax Valve (EM01918)
    • VER Electronic Frame (A P8ntball4me special)
    • AM/MM 15 Degree ASA
    • RPG Fluted Gas Thru Foregrip
    • Match Anodized Dye Ultralite 14 inch barrel

I'll revise if I reread it tomorrow and think of any more interesting details to add to this build.
Onto the next! Dallara #32 in the works

I stopped reading and caring after seeing that raw Karta body.

ano is sweet and the emax valve is perfect for her, but please, oh please just do a direct mount ASA. That sweet marker doesn't need so much chunky metal hanging off her.

I've gotten a few comments on the ASA for sure. Two thoughts I had for ASA's. First, I haven't found a direct mount I like yet. Still actively looking for sure.
Secondly, I haven't had a chance to really explore all the "hip new ASA's" out there. POPS, Cam, Gear, I'm slowly getting a feel for what I like and what's out there. That CP ASA and mini rail are pretty clean looking, and when not in use the gun is stored sans ASA anyways so I'm ok with the ASA not matching for now. Maybe down the road if I find something compelling, I'll match anno an asa. So far, meh.

The CCM feedneck is more of a throwback to the build I did over a decade ago. I really like how it came out actually.
The current Automag Inception Designs feedneck won't fit the Dallara. There is too much meat around the feedneck thread area for the current Inception Designs Automag feedneck to be installed. I confirmed this with Jake since he had both sitting around. In talks currently with Andy at Nummech, he mentioned that he had designed an adapter that will fit the Dallara height perfectly. Fingers crossed, I can get one of those for the next build.

A few things I would like to do a bit differently going into my second Dallara build and anno:
-Dovetail milling for the trigger frame
          -Match Annoed CCM Fittings

And yes, I am extremely happy with how it came out. This build was my first full Dream Mag build, complete with anno. I'm just sad I didn't do it sooner.

Don't get me wrong, everyone's opinion is just that, an opinion. If you are happy with it, then that is all that matters. Now, matching extraneous parts that may get swapped out for better down the road, doesn't matter to me. Never say never on selling a gun, cause if we need to, then we know what can or will sell.

But that is interesting on the feedneck. I know on my EP body, because of how VD had the feedneck cut, the Inception feedneck couldn't be used with the "standard" neck, and i had to use the tall one to clear the body. Luckily i was able to do it in front of Simon so i was able to get the right part.

Now, i would say look at the ID EZ ASA. Not only is it smaller profile than the POPS, but i think nicer overall. The POPS works(but not for me, weirdly enough) but the ID one is so much easier to use and take apart. Take a look at them if you want a final piece for this.

Though, i can not stress this enough. Though dovetails are more common, they are not strong. The T-slot design is so much firmer and better. Though it will limit choices of ASAs to use, the implementation and strength from it is way past the dovetail. Also, it doesn't mean you can not still do the cuts for it, as the ASA will hide the bare metal but i know that you will always know that it be there.

for the record the inception feednecks not fit on a karta or dallara with the stock angel mount. I was the on the reached out to Andy and gave him the dimensions to make the adapter. you can see it in my deadlywind group pic i posted not to long ago.

One of you guys just needs to buy the old ccm tall feedneck i bought years ago for a xmag breech mod that never happened.

                Mobster: awesome build.

I definitely will look into T Slotting. Didn't realize Inception offered such a low profile T rail, I'll have to get one ordered to see how I like it.

This build will stay pretty much the way it is for a while. Good news is 2nd Dallara build is currently underway, thanks to the M86 V2 that came out Just gotta line up a few more parts, figure out what foregrip I end up with, and I think I want to get a Deadlywind back to match anno for the 2nd one.
