    The Superbolt DOES affect consistency!!

I dunno how, but it does! I have had my (updated) Superbolt on my mag for a while. I cronoed it on the field and got like 300+, 159, 270, really poor consistency. It started to level out, but after that, the shots were all over the place. A few days ago, a friend came over and I was shooting my mag with the same paint I used, and it was all over the place. Today, I got an air fill, and, thinking about a post someone else made about this same issue, I decided to switch back to my good ol' foamie. I fire it up, and after a little adjusting(velocity was lower with the foamie in) I was getting hit after hit on the board...good consistency. I didn't think it was the superbolt, but is it? I know a lot of guys are doing just fine with theirs.

I'm wondering what I am supposed to do with this thing now...I'm much happier with my foamie.:)

      hmm

Mine does that too....I always thought it was something else. I also think it is a combo with my paint/barrel match (I only have one).

I'll check it out some more next time I go

nope, doesn't spin, and it's the 2nd one with the foamie. I dunno why it did that, but after I switched bolts, there wasn't a time I didn't hit the 1'X 1' board from 50 ft. away. With the Superbolt and the exact same paint, the balls would go crazy and 80% of them missed the same target from the same distance. Its just wierd. But I am happy now!

              ???

Why are you happy now? You can't use your superbolt without messed up accuracy and consistency..I wouldn't be happy personally, and I'm not really either. Why is my marker doing this? I'll try with the ol' reliable SS longnose next time I go out.

                Yeppers.

Mine does the same thing. Apparently if the paint dosent match the barrel perfectly the superbolt sucks.

I filed off that little raised part on the superbolt tip and consistency problems went away.

I attribute this to a few factors (speculative). Again they are speculative the theories need to be tested.

                1) The larger SB tip catches along the side of the barrel slowing it down.

                2) Dwell time is messed up. The Superbolt should have come with a redesigned powertube tip to compensate for the faster movement of the bolt.

                3) The superbolt seals too well the SS bolt was leaky and allowed air to escape when the paint matches well (increased resistance) and not leak too much when the paint matches poorly (decreased resistance). This acted as a buffer.

#1 is probabaly the most likely scenario for inconsistencies and I even speculate superbolt breakage.

I took a mag out from hibernation (sat in the closet for about 8 months after its younger brother, the emag, was born) the other day and heres how it went,
                  first shot was fine
                  second shot went extremely fast
third shot droped out of the barrel
after that I would have to wait about 10 seconds to get a fully charged shot,
A few drops of oil later the valve was shooting like the day I bought it, about 4 years ago. The moral of this story is that consistancy is dependant on taking care of your gun, my advise is to oil it up. I bet that will fix the problem 9 times out of 10.

                    hmm

What should I do then? Sand my SB?

Although I have inconsistent velocities with my superbolt I have recorded no breaks/chops of any kind. Same with my SS bolt too.

Well, I'm happy cause my mag is shooting straight on again, and the only part I had to replace was a bolt. I'm glad it was only that!:) I will take the whole thing into Pev's in a day or two and show Rob and maybe we can play around with it. And yes, my mag is well maintained:)

when my superbolt was usable I usually had +-1 at the chrono

                            comparing

I was comparing my superbolt to my SS bolt, at the chrono the SS bolt had consistent velocities, but my SB did not...

I'll double check all of this next time I go out
