    Air system inquiry

I am sorry to bother you with a redundant question, but I better trust the opinions here, and what I have gathered from searches hasn't quite satisfied me.

    Anyhow, here is the situation:
I currently am using a "classic" Mag, which I have been running on CO2. The CO2 was running from a remote with an expansion chamber, and this was connected to the back-bottle, which is in the standard configuration under the valve.
The CO2 tank, which is over 10 years old, has bit the dust. So, I will need to purchase something new. Now, I have had problems with the CO2 on occasion; even with a friend's anti-siphon, during fast strings or in freezing weather, I would still get freeze. Considering the problems oft associated with C02 on Mags, and factoring in the fact that I have to deal with the often frigid temperatures in Ohio, I am considering switching to HPA.

Fist and foremost, price is a concern. For one, I don't want a tank that is worth more than my marker. Additionally, as a college student, money and time are short, so I don't want to spend a lot on something that I may not be able to use often (although I plan on trying to get in as much time as I can).
Since I am using a standard Mag, and don't expect to upgrade anytime soon, I think that a fixed tank would suffice, thus cutting cost. Also, I would gladly buy used, further helping things.
One thing that I am not sure about is what capacity/pressure I should get. I do not shoot a huge volume. At most, I only fire a few-hundred rounds a game. However, I don't want to (and sometimes can't) fill up after every game. So, I don't need a huge capacity tank, but I don't want to be out of luck on a field that doesn't fill HPA. So, I am thinking that perhaps a moderate capacity tank would suffice.

One final consideration is my set-up. Because I have bad wrists, I don't really like hauling around a lot of weight. That is one reason I have a remote (in addition to the CO2 probs). However, it is an older, coiled remote, and I am unsure of the pressure limits on it. I have heard that most are around 3000 psi, more than enough, although even less should be enough. Has anyone has any problems with bursting? Also, I have an older pack that is sized for a 20 oz. I don't really want a new pack as this one works well, so, IF I stayed with remote, this would be a factor. However, if the only tanks that will fit are low capacity tanks, then I will just mount it on the marker, and nix the remote.

I think that is all of the information that is pertinent. So, given these factors, what would you suggest that I look for? Please indicate not only brand/model, but also shot-capacity, avg price (new or used) and any other relevant info.

    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Sorry for the length!

Any of the preset tanks should be fine. You could pick up an a high capacity tank (that should fit in the harness) anywhere from $150-$250. Here check out www.paintballgear.com. They have a pretty good selection of presets. They all work pretty well and should fit your needs and budget. For 4500psi tanks (make sure you can get 4500psi fills) you multiply the size (68ci or whatever the number happens to be) by 15 to get the average shots per full fill. For the 3000 psi tanks, multiply the size by 10.

I have 3 nitrogen tanks, i would sell you one that suited you. Please email me at [email protected] if interested.

Anyhow, if you wanna buy new, ive gotta recommend crossfire for presets and smart parts for high end adjustables

If you get a fixed-output tank, it's generally going to be somewhere around 750-850psi, depending on the brand. This is fairly close to the pressure output you've been getting out of your co2 tank while running remote. This means you shouldn't have any problems with the remote line.

If you're concerned about longevity, think about a steel tank as opposed to a fiber-wrapped. Steel tanks have a 5-year hydro vs. 3 for fiber (unless you get the tuffskin stuff, which is above your price range). Since you'll be wearing it on your back, the minor increase in weight shouldn't affect you.

The 114ci 3000psi from Crossfire here: http://www.actionvillage.com/031-7240.html is another option that would give you at least 1400 shots before requiring filling. The downside is, it's big, but if you're wearing it on your back, who cares, right? :)

I used to use a crossfire 68ci stubby in a 20oz pouch when I was running remote, no probs. Used a 20oz tank cover on it too. If you buy used, make sure to find out what the date is on the tank so you know when it needs to be hydroed

what kind of setup do you have. ive never had a problem with freezing and i play in Wisconsin, in winter, with the co2 on the gun.
