    How efficient is a Mag?

    Hello all,

I was wondering how the mGa compared with other markers in terms of air efficiency. I have heard that a closed bolt marker get better air efficiency due to the closed bolt action sealing the barrel before the gas pop hits the balls. Better seal = more propellant to force the ball down right?

Heres my rating so far from best to worst... (Well I think)...

    BEST...

    1) Cocker
    2) Impulse
    3) Angel
    4) Spyder
    5) Matrix
    6) Shocker

    WORST...

I have no idea where the Mag fits in there. I have heard about Cocker guys getting 1400-1500 shots out of a 68/4500, while Shocker and Matrix's are struggling just to have a 68/4500 in the game.

    LMK all on your ideas.

    Also guys,

would an O-ring on the bolt help efficiency.

Kilauea, did you notice a climb in shot count for your tank?

    LMK. Guys.

i always wanted to try an oring on the bolt, maybe finaly rid myself of blowback. but i sold all my mags so alas i never will try. effiency from what ive seen is below an angel. Put intimidator on there, jus below cocker.

        air hog

My micro is an air hog. I dont get alot of shots out of the tank, compared to the angel. I like my mag better though

          Mag efficiency

I've never actually counted, but I did notice that my mag became an air hog after I addded a four hole mod. Other than that, I find the mag to good, better than my old cocker anyway.

I would say they are, I mean I got 500 shots off last time I played and still had 1k to 1.5k left out of a 2.5k filled tank.

O-Ring on the bolt? Where would it go?

I am getting 900 shots from my 45 4500 flatline on my SFL with the o-ring bolt. I didn't do alot of testing, but I think I get about the same with a normal bolt. It is hard to say if it is more efficent. One thing you have to worry about is the o-ring breaking behing the washer that stops the bolt. It can get caught up in the spring and cause the gun not to fire...which in the middle of a game is not a pleasant experience.

Another thing you run into with the o-ring bolt is getting it through the washer. In my SFl, if you want the oring to be snug in the breach, it more than likely will not fit through the washer. You could put the bolt and valve assembly in the gun without the bolt o-ring, than remove the breach and install the o-ring.

What I ended up doing was just lightly sand the o-ring until it just cleared the bolt stop washer. Like I said before though, the positive effects were not worth the trouble.

I must get near 1200 shots with my Retro from a 68/45 tank. Last fall at the Sam's Big game I went though 8 tubes (140 each) and still had a little air left (maybe 1500psi). Thanks to Chupas and Butch for going to car and getting me more paint mid game!

The RT Valve is much more effiecient than the A.I.R. Valve. I would maybe be able to get 900 shots with my A.I.R. and with my RT I can get about 1200 with the same tank. I am using a JnJ 12" 2 piece. That is pretty much the only reason I am keeping the RT, it is really efficient.

Puddleglum makes a good point by including the barrel he uses. The amount of porting, and particularly the non-ported length, will have an effect on efficiency. If the porting comes too early on the barrel, it takes more air to accelerate the ball to ~300 fps. If I recall from some deep blue threads, the ideal non-ported length for a mag is like 10 or 11 inches. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)
