    Grammer.........maybe?

Now i realize that i probably don't even come close to speaking properly. I'm probably not the best speller in the world either. But as i'm browsing the boards tonight, i see an insanely amount of mistakes in peoples' posts. I don't understand. An occasional spelling mistake is understandable, probably just mis-typed it. When your whole paragraph is just gibberish, come on?!? What's worse, it's from adults and college students(some of them). Do people just not care about what they type only how they talk? Or do people just not know the english(american?) language? I just couldn't get it. Some of my favorite examples:
    dose
    their, they're, there
    sence
    know, knoe, nowe
    its, it's
    yadda yadda yadda

I find i have to hold myself back from commenting because it would just start a pointless argument. Am i alone in all this? Or am i just stupid? I guess people just forget what they learn in school as soon as they don't need the information. Oh well, life goes on.

The 5 Things the Internet has Taught me...

              5. There's always someone in the world who is stranger than you.

              4. *People do not know how to write intelligible, much less proper, english.*

              3. If there is not an "A-hole Poster" on the forums you visit, then you are probably him.

              2. Internet porn *never* gets old. ;P

and the most important thing the Internet has taught me..

              1. Shes lying about being a girl!!!!

Absolutely. I have tried bringing up the same thing, trust me. All you will get is flammed.

It really has to do with the audience that participates. For example, if you visit other interest boards like say handheld computing, you almost never get blatent grammatical or spelling errors.

Remember, it's one thing to misspell a word, but it's another to be too ignorant to know how a word is spelled. Dere is not word. Neither is knoe or newmatic.

Also, take a look at the type of off topic sentences on the popular paintball boards. Look around the time of any political turmoil and you will see great threads like, "How to bunker a chinaman" (My personal favorite from last year's spy plane incident). Notice I did not capitalize Chinaman because doing so would actually give a dose of intelligence to the original poster.

What is the difference between paintball and other activities? Well look at the demographics. You are dealing with largely upper to middle class. This suggests an average to higher than average income.

How so? Well paintball is a very expensive sport. My friend once told me, you have to be rich to become a pro. That is absolutely true. Practice every weekend. Even if you get air and entry for free for the tourney fields, tell me what kid can afford to spend $40-100 a case a weekend? And not just one case, 5-10 on average right? Don't tell me sponsorships, I am talking about getting up to the pro level. Then there is the issue of markers and upgrades.

Who pays for all this? Many times not the participant. It's usually their parents. Many times wealth is associated with intelligence because you think if someone is well off they probably worked hard for it. Went to school, learned valuable skills, and applied it. The American Dream right? Well these parents are not the ones playing and not the ones posting. Its their kids, who like the Rockafeller children are intent on taking the free ride mommy and daddy have given them rather than making something for themselves.

Now before the fun begins, let's cover some basics of what I said. First I said largely, mostly, many times, etc. What this means is through MY eyes, and MY experience, a lot of the people I see posting fall under these categories. It certainly does not mean the majority, or all or even YOU. So your examples of "Hey look at Tom Kaye, he's a genius!" Well yes he is, but I already excluded him from my examples.
                  Peace!
