According to JRR Tolkien ... Gnomes are the cousins of Dwarves who aren't as rugged or greedy and generally live the life of a man (they are really good in science, so to say). This makes them experts in the ballistic (war) region of science. I would definitely say Gnomes are a proper choice

Yes, yes, they are more scientific, but Dwarves are still more rugged! I dont see very many Gnomes charging into the heat of battle! Yes, I will admit, I probably wont win this argument, but I'm just not a Gnome fan, Dwarves forever! Right WarCzar? Hahah, how where'd my Ale go!?!?!?
