Unfortunately, this type of activity is what turns women off of our sport, the appearance of testosterone overdosed males oggling the females, there's more to women then large breasts and pretty faces, but its sad that the bulk of you have yet to learn that life lesson.

I've seen mothers with their kids at Barnes and Noble look through paintball mags that they're kids want to buy because one of their school mates who plays told them about it (those parent who actually take interest in their children's activities). Mom opens the mag, scans through the pages quickly, come across the Spyder Girls or some other "silicon enhanced model who obviously has never played a game of paintball in their life" hanging out all over the place, and promptly puts the magazine right back on the shelf and walks away. Say goodbye to another potential supporter of the game, that parent has formed a negative opinion from the getgo without even reading a single word printed in the magazine about how safe our sport is.

It this type of mentality that contribures to the whole ignorance factor that keeps our sport relegated to that small sector called extreme sports, where the general public believes that testosterone and stupidity are the main requirements to participate.

Time to grow up and act mature, lets move this sport into the limelight, get rid of the overt sexuality and embrace all players regardless of sex.

There are very few sports in which men and women can play as equals, paintball happens to be one of those sports. Lets not alienate the fairer sex, we need them to succeed.

I'm not talking Wonder Bras and Thongs here fellas. Take the layout that Crossfire (?) did for Capo. A very cute shot of her sitting on a car, some pics of her playing, nothing to offend anyone. I know some of the dealers go a little further than that, but I guess they feel they need to do that to sell products.
When that eight foot tall goon is tapping the back of your favorite head against the wall, and asks, "Have you paid your dues?"...You tell him what old Jack Burton tells him...You tell him, "The checks in the mail".

You've got to be kidding me, For starters Keely is hot..plain and simple. Any chick that grows the sack to jump on a field and have paint slung at her at 290 fps is allright in my book. I've got the poster, signed and on my kitchen wall so me and my roomates can admire it whenever we open the fridge (which we do an awful lot).
I think the girl has a great rack, anything more then a handful is a waste. Anyways she's athletic and not affraid to handle a little sweat and pain.
The girls so money, she doesn't even know it!

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, but let's face it - guys do that with everything. Every sport, every passtime, everything. The women have pretty much figured that out by now. Most of them know better than to pay too much attention to that. Besides, we're not talking about silcone-breasted bimbos in micro-thongs in magazines, we're talking about cool chicks that play the sport.

I don't really want to argue about it, but I get tired of hearing people constantly playing the PC record. I agree we shouldn't have porn in our magazines, or naked female referees, that would be crass, but I really don't see harm in enjoying the beauty all around us, especially in women - they are, after all, the most wonderful thing ever placed on this Earth!

                    Gimmee a Break!

OK, I'm trying to imagine women turned off of a sport because guys who play that sport like to look at beautiful women. Sorry can't! Women get turned off of our sport because of the amount of aggression involved. Women in our society are conditioned not to be aggressive. Those who manage to develop a bit of an attitude anyway are typically the ones who love our sport. I think more women are turned off by a guy rushing to bunker some guy and then yelling "heck yeah! in your face! kicked your butt! you wuss!" and crap like that.

As for oogling women, the biggest problem most of them REALLY have with it is not the oogling, its the unrealistic physical ideal that is put forth. One of the things you learn when you get older and more experienced is that "hot" hsa little to do with cup size or even waist size. Some of the hottest women I've known would not stand up to the 14-year-old-thinks-your-hot test. Why? Because the 14 year olds are letting someone ELSE tell them what is hot - I mean, it's not like they have any experience of their own to go by.

You'll never see the FatMan dissin' a woman over her looks - I love 'em ALL! And no one is looking over MY shoulder!

I agree, the ads that "Bruiser" used to run in APG were in bad taste, but gals like Amy and Keely and Clare, and PJ, they're great! And is are every other young woman I've met on the paintball field! Take a look at some of the pics I shot at the NJ AO meet. Lots of Hot Ladies!

I wouldn't have said anything about this whole thread if I hadn't actually seen this happen on more then one occasion. Parents, who take an active interest in what their kids want to do, immediately getting turned off from the sport by a single ad in a paintball magazine.

The problem here is usualy those parents already have an idea formed in their heads about the sport long before they even see anything in print or even bother to do research on it. They're usually just looking for an excuse to give the kids on why they don't want them to play. Whether its a hatred for firearms in general (we do "shoot" projectiles at each other), bitter feelings about something completely unrelated (failed marriage, cheating partner, etc.), or simply because it's labled as an "extreme sport" (ie. high risk/dangerous sports).

I saw this just last week while I was at Barnes and Noble. My wife and kids were back in the kiddie section, I was looking through gun magazines, we were burning time on a friday night waiting for Chevy's to get throug their waiting list (45 mins that evening). I was looking through ShotGun News right next to this mom with two young boys (I'm guessing their ages were 13 and 11, they looked very close in age to my two older boys). They were looking through several paintball mags discussing which marker their friend at school uses to play, one of them handed mom the magazine they were reading, expressing a desire to purchase it, I didn't get a chance to see which mag it was. She flipped through it, hit an ad she thought was offensive and said "you two definitely don't need this" and put it back on the shelf. I spoke up and said that my 13 yera old son plays on a regular basis and loves the sport, and that I also have a 10 year and a 5 year old who both look forward to playing when they're older. She took one look at the ShotGun news I was reading and said "Oh, I bet" and then turned and walked away with her two kids in tow. Her two boys looked crushed, I felt really bad for them. She already had an idea about the sport based upon what she saw in the paintball mag and my reading of ShotGun news. At that point there was little I or anyone could say to her to change her mind.

More then likely, those two young men will go on to play paintball since they have friends at school who play reguarly, the desire to play is stil alive for them, they just won't be doing it anytime soon because mom laid down the law then and there.

                        MORE BABES!

Bob, I understand what you are talking about. I submit that the ad really had nothing to do with it. That woman was looking for an excuse to cop that attitude, and if hadn't found that ad, would have found something else. Otherwise, the kid won't be playing baseball, football, basketball, video games, or anything else - because they ALL have adds like that.

I'll reiterate that I don't like magazine adds with a nearly naked girl holding a marker either. If I want to look at that kind of material I'll check out a Playboy or something - their pics are MUCH better. And I have never been influenced in a paintball purchase by such an ad.

At the same time, smartly doen advertising - sometimes involving beautiful women and possibly some nudity can catch the eye. Take the old JT adds with that really cute girl in them. No skin, just good old American Beauty!

But I thought the argument here was that paintball players in general shouldn't go "ga-ga" over georgious girls like Keely. I don't think the magazine ad issue is the same issue at all. I mean, otherwise let's talk about the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue!

No, the question here was more about our attitudes towards the girls we play with (or would like to play with) like Keely and Ann, etc. In this case, I would go so far as to say the ladies PREFER that we oogle and eye-ball their scrumptous bods! Otherwise, why are they showing them off? And the rest of the ladies are good with it too, as long as we are checking them out just the same. Oh they may give us dirty looks and stuff, but in reality they LOVE it!

Its all about boys and girls playing together and its a beautiful thing.

Evil I would almost bet you she saw an add depicting Paintball as a War game with camo outfits and all. Not a scantily clad woman. You would more likely get that response too! Something should be done there as well. I would rather they want to make love than war!!! :)

I agree, I believe she was looking for a good excuse, but it happened to be an ad with half nake woman in it that she closed the magazine on and made her statement. Unfortunately, my mind reading skills are not as highly polished as they should be, therefore I was unable to find her real motivation, all I have to go on was what I witnessed first hand. I'm betting that ad was only a small factor in the equation, but it was that combined with the appearance of being a violent game asociated with what she percieved as firearms (hence her reaction to my reading ShotGun News) that mostly is where she drew the line.

Unfortunately, we are surrounded by ignorant masses who formulate their opinions on lack of information, this mom was a classic example of that.

JT's ads are classy, as well as Dye's, both show pretty women who we all know actually play the game. I find those very tasteful. Even Kapp's model is a player, though their ads cross the line for the image we should be putting forward.

My whole point here is that I want to do as much as we can to limit the excuses parents can come up with to prevent their kids from participating. It's one of the reasons paintball has tried to divorce itself from the firearms industry, to improve it's public image.

Bob, once again, you are right! But there are no quick fixes. It takes a lot more than that - it takes talking to people, and educating them. Getting involved in public issues that are related (like helping to stamp out paintball-related violence and vandalism) and at the same time being part of the better image of paintball and an example to all.

But we can't pander to EVERY nit out there to be picked! I mean, there's the tree-hugger crowd, and the fanatic religious crowd, the rabid anti-gun crowd, and the anti-sex-in-anything-anywhere crowd. I mean, yeah we could try to appease ALL of them in the name of trying to show paintball is a nice clean sport - but in the end all those people want is their OWN agenda met.

Again, I think blatant rediculous sex in paintball is bad idea, and I don't support it, but we have to be reasonable too - and ME, I *LIKE* sex!!! :-D
