    URGENT QUESTION----> filling CO2

    just got my own fill station...and i need some help. i have a digital fish scale, and i need to know what weight a 20oz. bottle is at when it's filled. is it ounce per ounce? the bottle itself weighs 2oz. empty....how heavy does the scale have to read when its full?

    22 oz is what it should weigh when full... You are putting in 20 oz because it is a 20 oz bottle So if it weighs 2oz empty... well you do the maths

        Are you sure that the empty bottle only weighs 2 ounces? Most that I've seen are around pound and a half and 3lbs when full.
        Thanks,

            I do this at the field I work at:
            1) Attach bottle to hose and hang on scale.
            2) Drain bottle (chills it)
            3) Turn on scale (it'll set at zero)
            4) Fill

            By zeroing the scale, it dosn't matter how much the bottle weights empty, it'll weight the new co2. Chilling the bottle help get it filled.

              Yeah Halliday's got it down I would try that. Shouldn't you zero the scale when it is empty and the HOSES ARE NOT attatched? Because the hoses and ASA apparatus are going to way a little...

                Zero the scale when the tank is dry. The hoses and tank don't matter. It'll all be zeroed and all you'll weigh is co2, it'll be the only thing changing because it's flowing into the tank.

                  FYI - I've always heard that you are supposed to only put like 16-18ozs in for safety reasons. But then again that's what the Blow-off valve is for, right?

                    I usually leave a spare oz. Sometimes 2 oz.

                        I go all the way. Purge tank, set on scale, zero scale, fill up to right amount, unscrew on/off, bleed line, take tank off. You MUST purge the tank to get it cold, otherwise it will not fill all the way. A good idea is to keep your tanks in the freezer so you don't waste as much gas to purge. And always start filling with a completely empty tank.
