you made some valid points. I as well do not wear a mask while shooting in my yard. But this idiot has the thing pointed straight at his face. Even if you ignore all other saftey rules, for the love of pete don't point the thing at your (or anyone elses) head.

I did observe. I observed a paintball gun with no barrel plug/condom that has a gas source hooked up. The tank may be on, the tank may be off. Who knows... All I know is it's damn stupid to have that pointed at someone's head. Sure looks like a rule violation to me, anyways. (Masks ON or barrel plugs IN)

Valid points aside, that is just absolutely a stupid thing to do. The fact that you predicted that someone would tell you so does not change the fact that it is so. I've been playing for only two years, probably not even as long as you have. In that time I can't begin to tell you how many times I've shot someone in the lens, or been shot in the lens. If you're playing regularly, or even occasionally, without a mask, it's not like you're taking a calculated risk. It's only a matter of time before a hit that would have meant cleaning your goggles ends up ruining your life. If you just don't care about that, which it sounds like you don't, then you need counseling, badly. There's a profound difference between not being afraid to give your life and not being afraid to throw it away.

If that alone isn't enough to make you wear a mask, think of the guys you're playing with. Do they wear masks? How would you feel if you blinded one of them? How would they feel if they blinded you? For God's sake, unless you're a rental player, you have a mask, just wear the thing when you play. You don't have to wear it all the time, that's why we have plugs and condoms. But not wearing a mask when you play paintball is like playing Russian roulette. Sure, chances are you'll be fine, but wouldn't you rather take that last bullet out of there?

True its not the safest thing he could do, but it really depends on the situation, if he walked off the field, grabbed his hopper off the gun then immediatly started looking down the barrel that wouldn't be smart. But my Matrix is sitting on my bed, i haven't played or shot it in weeks, its been turned upsidedown, taken apart, and looked at MANY times. The tank is on(but empty), theres no barrelplug, and no hopper. If I were to "pose" with it pointed near my face, it certainly wouldnt be a good thing to make a habit of, but it wouldn't be a real hazard to me. It all depends on the situation, and since I no idea when this was taken, and i just skimmed the posts it seems to me that sometimes people can take this whole mask on everytime near a marker thing too far.

Not saying safety is bad, better safe than sorry, but still. You cant critizise someone unless you know the facts. If you guys knew he just finished playing or something, ignore what i just said cause it doesn't apply and he really should be more safe.

On purpose, no, do mistakes happen? Yes! Tell that to the people's farm that was shelled outside of Ft. Hood because the M109 was facing approx 180 degrees in the wrong direction. A barrel the length of a car is a lot easier to notice than a .68 cal paintball.

Have you ever played a tourny? I, and everyone I know, tend to fill our tanks after every game. Assumeing he isn't a back player, I would bet he didn't empty his tank in the previous game.
