    getting a mag, have ???'s

I recently purchased my first mag. I haven't gotten it yet. I have a few questions about it though.

    1) It has a spacer kit with it, what is that and what does it do?

    2) What kind of routine maintenance needs to be done to it? Like what do I oil?

    3) Is there anything thats really different about it from my spyder other than the way the trigger operates?

    4) Do they really chop alot of balls and how can you cut down on this?

Thanks for any help :). I can't wait for it to get here

    1) 5 brass rings that determin where the bolt stops and starts to return... i think...you dont need it unless your gun leaks down the barrel or the bolt sticks, but its a good thing to have in your tool box

2)put 2 drops of oil in the ASA and your good to go!

    3)The design is completely dif..

i donno if you know how your spyder works but a mag works completely diffrent... im not good at explaining so il leave it to some one else.

    4) iv never choped 1 ball out of like 10 cases so far... its all about how you learn the trigger ( another thing i cant really explain)

      1) spacer kit changes(I THINK) chages how soon the gas is released to send the ball. I could be wrong on this, if I am, correct me

2)behind the grip, theirs a silver screw. unscrew that and take out the valve. get the bolt and put a light coat of oil on it. thats all i do.

3)everything is different except that they both shoot paintballs. but nothing really is that much of a concern. One thing you might wanna do(if you haven't already) is get a nice nitrogen system. mags can be a pain when they freeze up. I think that might be one reason alot of newbie's dont like them. they dont wanna spend 200 dollars oin anice tank and dont want their gun freezing up so they ditch the mag and say it suked.

4)if you take care of them, no they dont chop as much as ppl let on. ppl just dont know wanna get a feel for the trigger and they short stroke alot. if you take some time gettin used to how the mag works, it wont chop. my dads RT doesn't chop at all. maybe 1 ball outta 2000(seriously)

It moves the PT oring around to compensate between tolerance differences between guns. I would not bother getting one. Most guns work fine with the .220 spacer. If you get a leak down the barrel your PT oring is worn, not that the PT spacer is the wrong size (most of the time)

Put a couple drops of oil down the asa, and shoot 10-20x without the barrel on before each day of play.

A lot actually. The trigger is the biggest from just a using standpoint though. The velocity adjuster is very sensitive on the mag. Just a little turn is needed. You don't need to worry about cocking the gun.

as long as the gun is clean inside, your PT oring is good, and you don't short-stroke the trigger you will rarely chop a ball if you have a motorized hopper.

Welcome to AO and Automag owners,

          1)Direct from AGD Store:
The Spacer Kit gives you five different brass spacers, all legibly numbered so you can adjust the spacing of the power tube O-ring. If your gun has bolt stick, use a longer one; if it leaks down the barrel, use a shorter one. Find one that works and stick with it! Quality machined brass to AGD standards
2)http://www.airgun.com/manual.shtml , go to the Automag manual, it tells you maintence. Also, go register your Automag and you can request a video and manual and the will send you them for free. The video shows everything about the Automag, maintence, and troubleshooting.

3)Yes, it is a whole different trigger feel, more snappier and shorter. Don't know how to describe how it feels other than that.

4)No, the Automag itself doesnt chop balls, its user's fault. They shortstroke the trigger(dont do a full pull) which chops the ball. LVL 10 basically stops ball breakage. Go to the thread made by AGD and it will tell you all you need to know about LVL 10.

          Recommended upgrades:
          Nitro
          Barrel
          Intelliframe
          Revolution, Halo, Rico
Drop Forward that is comfortable to you
          LVL 10
          Retro Valve

Stay away from aftermarket parts that change the valve assembly. Such as ANS, PMI, Shocktech. Only AGD aftermarket upgrades.

Also, there is a search button in the top right corner. Its good, but don't be afraid of posting.

wow you guys really respond fast. Thanks for the info.
I do plan on buying a nitro tank, I just need the $$$. Ityl was right on as far as my third question and what I wanted to know. I already knew about blowback vs blowforward and have alittle understanidng about it. The illustration really helped with understanding the operation.
Here is what I plan to do to it eventually:
            first, new barrel
already have a kapp dzII, just need tank adapter
            2x trigger frame
            cosmetic stuff
            anything else I should get?

            Thanks for all the help:)

Also, is your body Standard feed? Does it go straight out? If so, a Powerfeed body would also be a good upgrade.

have fun with your new mag...

i think i can explain it... the air goes into the regulater, where its regulated . then it goes into the air chamber where it waits for you to pull the trigger. when you pull the trigger the ON/Off pin stops airflow to the air chamber and the bolt is released. the bolt is pushed forward by the air in the air chamber, the air is expelled down the barrel taking the ball with it. then being the pressure is off to the air chamber thanx to the on/off pin, the bolt spring is strong enough to push the bolt back to cocked posistion where it sits untill you release the trigger. then the bolt is held in place by the sear and the sear also lets the on/off pin open so air can fill the air chamber again and your gun is ready to fire!...

il try to put arrows on that diagram for you to point out the parts.

That's the same way I felt when I first got here. AO is the first and best source for all things Mag. I've also discovered that the people here tend to know more about all kinds of markers.
