Why Is My Freak System InAccurate?

when playing sunday i was the last guy in on my team. the otehr team didnt know where i was(i dunno why they shot me in the head and it bounced a bunch of times) anyway so i look out my bunker and see this guys hopper standing right out in the open noone looking in my direction. i shoot all the balls i had left(about 10) and every ball went AROUND the hopper! im wondering why my freak is shooting like this even though i got a good ball to barrel match(using jt maxims with the 691 insert) and there were no breaks the whole day

    I expect it is a "U.S.R" error?

    It's quite common.

Either that or it could be down to crappy paint.

Well a couple of things may be happening. One your chosing a insert ether side of perfect. Or the balls are irregular and your not testing enough balls to determine this. I suggest at least 8-10.

Two your putting the insert in backwards. in this case you should look at the insert and the end that says "The" from the words "The Freak" on it should go into the base first. And in many cases the bore diameter will then line up with the oval hole showing the bore size. Not always the case as I have some newer style inserts that do not line up with the use of an older style base. So I look for the way the words on the insert are arranged.

Third would be a missaligned or miss milled barrel. Look down the thing as see if anything is sticking out. An oring or a missalignment should show clearly. You should see no seams or anything. Also make sure your tightening the tip on real good. and your barrel nubbin is in good shape. If you find your is missaligned then contact Smart Parts. There were a few of these reported. They will exchange it. its most commonly the base off and leaving a small lip. I know of two of these that were confirmed and they both were replaced. One was a SS and one an Aluminum.

A good fit is one the is tight enough when its pushed into the barrel about an inch and a held but blows though fairly easy. But it starts at the end with the "the" on it and tapers back out on the other side. The "tight spot" or bore is nearer to this one end. It is not in the middle. You want that tight end nearest the ball when the ball is chambered into the barrel.

too loose. I shoot jt's with the .682 insert. I have no problems one or two shotting people.

If you just grabbed the .691 insert and didn't size it, you're most likely using too large an insert. The inserts do vary some. Iusually use my .689, and sometimes my .687 if the JT Maxim is very fresh, YMMV.

also this is on my cocker not the mag so i wouldnt have a problem with nubbins or orings.

i looked around online and it said that it was 691 so i figure id put that in and it seemed to be shooting fine

Ah HA! No it was not shooting fine! You already said it was not!!! It's the whole subject of your post. And you failed to even use the freak system as described. You never actualy sized the paint yourself. Online references are not accurate at all. Size it or suffer the consequences as you did this time. I suspect as many have pointed out you were shooting it way too lose. You probably needed the .689.
