AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
Our tank isn't coming... KayleAGD is working the event so I'm not gonna haul it up... besides... we never really had a chance to arm it. It was a nice idea but a pain to carry and keep track of. I will bring the psychological warefare CD though.... ever heard Shatner sing !!!!:)
My wife is also playing... a nice 7of9 type treat :) It's her first big game and I finally talked her into it.
We are arriving Friday midday... be at the field that afternoon.
Heh, I live about 2 miles from the brewery, and I'm drinking one now.
LMK what variety you want - the premium stuff isn't much cheaper up here than it is down there, but the original (and light - which I won't disgrace my car by bringing) can be had for about .50/bottle.
Then you can attempt to find me - but no worries, if you don't, I have no problem takingmatters into my own hands. Well, as long as you don't want berryweis.. chick beer!
come on guys we still have lots of role's to fill...
from the judge in the WDP v Sp case.... " i find it significant that aside from a somewhat limited notebook produced by gaston, the four named inventors offer NO documentation of there work or there contributions to the conception or reduction to practice of the claimed invention"
1) Who has FRS Radios? These are a scenario must.
Setup our channels and scramblers beforehand
2) Who has any special weapons: Unfortunately our tank is out...but I did pick up a landmine :)
3) Can we get a fairly detailed arial map?
In some cases the best scenario tactic may be to take as much ground as possible off the break on both sides. We then search for prizes or hidden things and then retreat back to sustainable lines for awhile. Let the other wear themselves down... this isn't speedball... it's a marathon event :)
From other posts I've read it sounds like our main base will be in between our two opposing teams. That means one of our highest priorities is likely to be base defense since we will probably be taking fire from at least two sides. I'd suggest we have a strong team lined up with this as their main priority. Special missions grant large points however if our base is actually captured we are sure to lose huge points for it potentially cancelling out the benefits of several completed missions. With our base in the middle, it sounds to me like we are likely to be focused highly on base defense. As much fun as offensive type missions are we are going to need plenty of experienced folks to "hold down the fort" at all times during the event.
From other scenario games I've been to, at sign up players receive a packet with info that says what their role will be and what squad number they will be in. This may randomize how the AO folks are distributed unless we just re-assign ourselves and potentially leave some squads short on experience and/or firepower.
It would be good to have a place where the AO crowd can keep their gear stored and where we can gather during the event when taking breaks too. One of the things I've wondered about is how to secure my extra gear since it is likely to be a bit of a hike to our cars. It would be good to know there is a place being watched where our backup markers, paint and other gear is less likely to walk away on us as we play. If anyone has non-playing family or friends that will attend the event perhaps we can gather them in a central area to watch our gear.
Has anyone heard if ghillie suits will be allowed? I've read that everyone will have to wear their game jersey but I'm not sure if that means we will not be able to wear camoflage over it. What is the official story on this?
A good friend is one that will come and bail you out of jail.
A great friend is one that is sitting next to you in jail saying "Man that was F#%*ing Awesome"!

There is already a thread going about who has FRS radios, although no specificas about channels have been decided.
No special weapons here, sorry.
I have a plan to make and have printed Topo maps of the fields with a GPS route as a field boarder and any bases marked as waypoints. I only plan on doing this if people think it is worth it as it will take me half a day at best to walk around the field with the GPS and find and waypoint the bases.
FYI... there's talk about trekkies joining the BORG or KLINGON teams only to sabatoge it.
If this happens, we might have to arrange a firing line style execution against any Benedict Arnolds.

Bill,
What you really need my friend is a couple of really good ringers to infiltrate the other teams. ( All is fair for the kids ) Think of all the possibilities!!!!

Unfortunately, the rules for the event state that if you are caught doing this, you will be expelled from the event without refund and your jersery will be confiscated. (in other words, it's not a good idea)
