In other words...YES!
After it been 3(or 5 for newer tanks) years from the printed date on the tank you MUST get it hydroed. Hopefully your field wont even fill tanks that need hydro.

All nitrogen tanks need to be hydro'd every few years. They typically need to be done every three years, but there are a few of the newer tanks that are good for 5 years. CO2 tanks larger than a certain size (I can't remember but I think 12oz or so) also need to be hydro'd.
As far as it being a must, well there are two aspects to that. Legally, you must do it. Practically, anyone who is filling tanks should be looking at the date on the tank and refusing to fill expired tanks. You may be able to get away with getting an expired tank filled, but you shouldn't plan on it, and it can ruin your whole day to not be able to play if your tank is expired. If you do have an expired tank and it does decide to blow up, the liability would fall directly to you and the person who filled it, rather than the manufacturer.

you can get it done at a scuba shop or a place that test fire xtingishers~which will usually be faster and cheaper.got my done in one day at a fire xting. place for $10 vs $30 and a week at a scuba place. fields/stores can get fined if they are caught filling an out of date tankIT'S NOT HOW YOU HOLD YOUR GUN IT'S HOW YOU FINGER YOUR TRIGGER!!!
