A lot of people will go into #automags, ask a question, then ask "hello?", PM everybody, then they quit.
Remember that someone will eventually get around to you. Although many of us are in there frequently, contrary to popular belief... we don't live there.
Normally, if someone is in the chatroom without an [Away] or something... they are probably at least home, but they might not be at the computer... or they might be busy doing something. The user behind our digital chatroom projections still has to do typical people stuff. Miscue is just a name in your IRC window... but Brian has to eat. RobAGD doesn't though, he's just a bot hooked up to the AGD knowledge database.
You can always ask your question... and if nobody is there... just leave your window open for a little while and come back to it later. Also a good idea to look for activity in the chatroom... if people are in there already talking, odds are good they'll respond to you.
The chatroom is usually much busier later in the day and at night. That's the best time to come in and ask for help... or better yet... to hang around and chat.
