    Marker choices....(pumps)

Ok AO'ers, here's my problem. Basically, I've got this spyder that I've been lookin to sell. With any luck I can get about $300 or so for it... anywho, I've been looking into some markers, and I cant' decide. I've been thinking of getting a pump gun, either a phantom or a sniper 2. Anyone know of any other good pumps? I've been thinking of either a pump or a mag, but the problem is, if I got a mag, I'd want to upgrade it (ReTro valve, LX, intelliframe), and I don't have that kind of money right now.
So, which is the better pump: an upgraded Sniper 2, or a Phantom? I think the Sniper has a lot more to offer in terms of upgrades, although I wish it was centerfeed instead of standard. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance

I have owned a couple of Phantoms, and a sterling, and have shot several snipers.

    my advise is as follows:

Upgrades, for cocker style markers, are mostly non-performance enhancing. They are just worthless eye candy (which can be nice... but with a pump performance is really more important).

Phantoms are great too, I love mine, but they are a bit more on the higher price end of the spectrum.. especially when you want to have all the convertable pieces...

Check out the new Illusion from Action Markers, it combines the flexibility of converting from stock to pump class of a phantom with the ability to use cocker barrels... with a body that is a LOT lighter than most cocker bodies.

We tried these out in the pump tourney at Shatnerball... Manike and Tack each bought one on the spot!

They are high quality markers, that are continuously being refined as they are slowly released into the paintball market.

check them out, you won't be dissapointed.

      I agree 100% with Fred...

But I would hold out until they get the AT for the Illusion.

Has anyone seen their semis? Personally won't give up my automag (especially when I can get a vertical low rise body for it)but as a backup or a loaner. I've heard people rave about them (review on paintball.com) but wanted to see one for myself.

The semi is pretty nice...it's cheap, got a very light trigger. But I could not shoot the thing to save my life.

As for the release date, I have no idea. I was talking to Bob and he said they where going to start working on it as soon as they got back. Once the AT is up and working, that gun is gonna be really nice.

I plan on buying one real soon, cause I am sure that there are some mods that can be done to make them even nicer. It needs some work along the lines of where it cocks and when the balls feed. I kept half cocking the thing and it would feed a ball, I would then have to cock it again to fire and it would load a second ball.

You might want to also look at the CCM (Chipley custom machine) Cocker based w/auto trigger. THey are very light and flat out rip.

last I checked CCM's website was down... any more info on the Illusion would be helpful... what is this "AT" you speak of anyway? Auto trigger?

YOu can find more info on the (dare I say) Paintball nation site. Look for the post about the CCM J2. It also has a picture on a marker.

the problem with CCM Snipers is... well... they cost 4x more than an Illusion!

the wait is very long too...

More info on the Illusions can be found (and questions asked...) at pumpplayers.com!

from what i read on WARPIG on the IAO that new snipers will be vert feed. what a while worr never updates there site but check out the article on warpig. i recomend snipers just because that is what i found more comfortable for me, more common, easier to get barrels, stock vert air too. phantoms that costs extra. i think the new snipers come with 45 frames too, whereas again with phantoms that costs extra.

                          and yet...

the Illusion is lighter than the Sniper... has all the sniper features... takes cocker threads... and can be converted to stock class with just a bit more time than a Phantom can (albeit with a tool...)...

the Illusion's pump stroke is nicer than any stock sniper I have shot (the Chipley kits are badass though...).

What about the Mag with a Pump conversion?

Anybody ever used one in anger? I've got the kit, but just have the pump handle on there because I really like it as a grip.
