First Shot Hot/Inconsistency with Level 10

I had a problem playing this past weekend with having my first shot hot..like 310-312..and then consistency being +/- 15+ all day long...I'm using a 1.5 carrier/middle spring/2 shims and it's a new eMAg which was chrono'd at the factory so i know it couldn't be anything like that and I'm using a System X 68/4500 tank with a 800-850 psi output...and it's really upsetting me that the gun is so screwy now.

hmmm, i have been checking around for you dan, it hink you need to move down a carrier. If you start to get bolt stick that way, i believe try going to the smaller stock spring. if it is still sticking, stay with the smaller sized spring, and move up a carrier, i hope it works!

so basically i should go to the normal "Old style bolt" spring and then see if i still have the problem..and if so..go to a smaller carrier (the #1 carrier because i'm on the 1.5 now..or do you mean go to the #2?) and stay with the "old style stock bolt" spring

Bunny you did go back and review the proper Crono proceedure for the Emag and RT right? Just making sure. I know you have lots of experience with these things but its sometimes the things we do all the time we tend to foget the exact way. I know I am guilty of that. Just thought it was something to review here.

But I am not certain if its only once in the day its anything to worry about. It sure does not sound like a lvl 10 issue to me unless it's just sticking a bit first time. But even so i see no logic for only one hot shot a day. besides I never go over the crono without my three first clearing shots anyway. Never bother to count them as I am lossening things up and heating them up. I think an odd shot first pull off a cold maker may be normal anytime. Things are kinda frozen up a tad in there from sitting up a while.

Almost sounds a little like tank reg creep does it not? I f it was to happen every time it was at rest for a period of time. How long is it sitting between "first shots" that are hot?

Always fire a few clearing shots before you chrony any marker, I never chrony the first shot.

Both symptoms are a result of a dirty/bad reg. seat. Replace it and oil the new one.

a reg seat from a gun that came new from the factory and it's only got a shade over 5k on the counter?

and it wasn't just one hot shot..the first show would be hot whenever i let the gun sit for a while between games..so no more than 10 minutes....and i would always shoot a string of 5 or 6 balls before i shot the actual clearing shot...

Sounds like a reg seat problem to me too. If the seat doesn't seal properly, small amounts of gas can build up, making your first shot hot. My friend had the same problem until I gave him a new reg seat.

I am surprised, though, that it should need replacing so soon.

If you don't want to believe me, then don't.

A small dirt particle, a small piece of teflon tape or anything of that sort can get caught inbetween the reg. valve pin and the seat. This prevents the seal from sealing completely and letting it sit lets more pressure pass by the reg seat and build up the chamber pressure, thus the hot shot after it sits for awhile.

Unscrew the black half of the valve, lift up on the brass reg. seat retainer and you'll see the reg. seat in the silver half of the valve. Pull that out and take a Q-Tip with alcohol and clean off the flat shiny part of the reg. valve pin and wipe down the o-ring re-oil it and put it back in.

Trust me, I know my stuff. It's a reg. seat problem and nothing else.

ok..i apologize for sounding like i wasn't believing you..i was just trying to explain a little more about the situation to give you all the info that you'd need..and btw..could it also be from too much oil in the valve..i've been oiling the heck out of it because level 10.and when i unscrewed the valve i noticed a large quantity of oil in the valve...thanks..

I had a similar problem after putting lvl10 in my automag, bunny, although mine was more like 45+/-!

I took the entire valve apart, replaced the reg seat, o-rings etc. That brough it down to about 30+/-. It was still pretty bad though. So I took it out to the range and shot about 1000 dry fired shots through it, oiling the bolt in between.

Now I'm down to about 5+/- so it seems like lvl 10 just needs to be broken in pretty hard. Maybe that'll help if you just installed it.
