well, I played in my first tournament today-
2 of my friends and I decided to play in a local tournament, and so, team Angry Mob was born. We signed up for the rookie division, and later found out that "rookie" meant one year or less of tournament experience- just about every team there, including good local amateur (I think) ones, were in the rookie group with us. A bit intimidating, but oh well, it'll be fun we think.
I'll give you a summary of the tournament now, and some memorable moments later on in the post:
The field was very nice- airball, but pretty wide open (big shoting lanes)
The tournament was Slam style- every team plays every other team, no playoffs. We ended up coming in 7th of nine in the rookie division (only 2 teams in the open division). Unfortunately, we had some unlucky calls go against us; refs not seeing hits on markers/masks until the game was over in two instances, both of them led to 2 on 1's with us being the 1. Also, not sure if this is normal or not, but one kid on my team got called out for kneeling on a paintball. Anyways, 4th through 7th place in the tournament were only 40 points off (one flag hang), so we probably could have done quite a bit better without the unlucky penalties, but oh well. It was horribly hot, around
95 degrees with no wind, and I credit the refs for everything they did, including showing up in the first place.
We actually did very well in the beginning, and were in 1st place after 3 games, even though we hadn't gotten a single flag pull. After that, it went downhill very quickly. We got maxxed by the next team, who eventually won the tournament, which STINKS! man, I hated being maxxed so much... anyways, we decided about halfway through to send our front guy to the 50 instead of the 30 on the break and get the pull. Whereas this worked quite a bit of the time, we couldn't seem to get any eliminations to win games when we sent the guy all the way up- I heard other teams talking about this too, I think it was because the way the field was laid out, when someone got to the big center bunker at the 50, everyone else on the field had an angle on them, so it reduced the game basically to a 3 on 2, with the 2 getting the pull and then losing.
Oh well
Something i'll remember for a while happened in the first game. The other team got the pull, and it went down to a 1 on 1 with me and a guy on the other team w/the flag... anyways, I managed to move up and get a good angle on him to eliminate him. I was super pumped, it being my first tournament game and all, so I sprinted over to him to get the flag and hang it... i guess I did it a little too enthusiastically. Halfway to the guy, I tripped and fell flat on my face, stuffing three inches of dirt into my barrel and embarrassing myself quite a bit, although that wore off the second I hanged the flag
.
One of my buddies had one of his and a guy on another team's balls collide in midair, which was really cool, i'd never seen it before.
All in all, it was great fun. Pics attatched of the Mob!
p.s. on a side note, when meeting AO member will wood, I realized today that I really can't fire much faster on an intelli, and it doesn't feel much better than my stock frame... anyone else feel the same way?
p.p.s. I had only one problem w/my mag, which was kinda bad- my velocity consistancy. I was +- 10-15 all day, and the average was jumping all over the place. I had decent paint/barrel match, I'm guessing it's something internal. A bit of the inside of the bolt-bumper-flat-o-ring (not sure
what it's called) came off yesterday... could that affect my velocity like that? (I was running nitro)
p.p.p.s. I won a lanyard! (everyone got one, lol)
p.p.p.p.s. sorry about all the p.s.'s
