Wow. LONG 2 days of 'balling.
Friday/Saturday--
I drive up with my friends Friday night and hit our campsite around 3AM. We pitch tents and hit the sack immediately (if not sooner). 5:30AM came really quickly and after the slow start in the cold Pocono Mountain Weather, we get to Skirmish by 6:30 after leading a train of cars/trucks/SUVs to the fields.
We set up our camp and started w/ breakfast & coffee. We registered (which was VERY quick and efficient) and hung our signal flag. Within about an hour, Dropkick1 and Misfit come over to say hi. Wickster and his lovely wife also come by to say hi. At around 10AM, 3 out of the 4 of us grab paint and head in. Not a whole lot of good stories, but some really good firefights. My fave was taking "Hood in the Woods" AKA "The Hood." It's a paintburning field and I went through 4 Speedpods and a hopper in about 20 minutes. The rest of the 2 hours I spent near that field was yelling like a madman, rallying the troops and waving our flag like a scene from Braveheart. A good day ended with Yellow beating Blue by a significant point spread. (Especially good considering we were down 50 players from Blue) The paintball eating contest and costume contest went on, but we left before the Wet T-Shirt Contest. Glenn also stopped by before we left in an attempt to tech his Level 10 problem. (Still not fixed. Has pressure on the trigger rod, but it won't fire. AGD tech ideas?)
Campfire building and dinner was on the agenda, as well as a few cocktails with Dropkick and Misfit at the campsite. The campfire was also the spot of our casualty. Me. I had my head on my lap and my buddy decides to toss a small rock at me. JUST as it leaves his hand, I sit up and it hits me SQUARE in the eye. (Not face, eye...) Anyway, that kinda sucked and it hurts even now. Oh well. Price you pay for not paying attention... At least I can tell people I got into a barfight
Sunday--
We get up around 6:30 and break camp. Pack the trucks and head over to the fields. We set up our makeshift tent and set out blankets. Breakfast/coffee & nap time ensues. Dropkick and Misfit park next to us and join breakfast. We head in for some mischief and work the 'Sup Air field. It kinda seemed that that's all we played on all weekend. Anyway, after a few rounds in, we head back for lunch and for me to switch to a smaller Lvl 10 carrier. (Small leak). Dropkick, myself and my friend Sean head in for insertion with about 6 other guys. We hit the Air Field, but see a tank and about 70 blue team members walking in. So we take up a position inside the treeline. Let's just say that once we heard the words "Barrel Plugs out", the paint started flying. We gave as good as we got, and the tank gunner had about 3 hoppers emptied onto his back before we left. I get gogged (no warp feed- still being modded) so Dropkick and I head out.
Sit around the camp for another half hour resting and cleaning. We grab the last of our paint and air, head for the insertion point and hit the airball field again. This turns into the last fight of the day. 12 yellow versus 50 blue. We hold them for about 30 minutes. Blue starts pushing forward on the yellow when all of a sudden, from the back end of the field comes 200+ yellow players. The battle ends quickly and yellow celebrates yet another sweeping victory. All in all, a great weekend event.
At last count, we had 1800 people in game. Not record breaking but still quite good. No air supply problems and great reffing. To be honest though, it was more of a huge rec game with some scenario ideas thrown in- tanks & flag/hourly field possession.
Vendors- National Paintball Supply, WDP, Tippmann & Smart Parts. (a few smaller vendors but I don't remember their names.
The best part? Seeing LOTS of 'Mag players on the fields. We (Dropkick, Misfit & myself) spread the glory that is Lvl 10, and I showed at least 10 people what it could do, including several of the senior judges. Tom, expect a few orders!
