Yes, you have to operate it manually (if I understand your question). You load up the 6pak+ with CO2 cartridges. Pull the level back and forward again and loads a CO2 cartridge. You can then load another, hence the + in 6Pak+. When ready for another CO2 cartridge you simply pull the level back and push it forward again. It ejects the old cartridge and loads the new one. It was a big enough advantage that those who ran tournaments decided to allow "Constant Air" shortly after it became available (I never got to use mine in a torunament ). That was the idea when they developed it, and they (AGD) told me so BEFORE I bought it.

And No, I never use it anymore.
