Look again, whilst simultaneously considering human morphology. Ergonomically, the z-grip is far superior to a standard grip for those who would use a standard method of gripping the frame.
When one has a marker positioned in close to the body, one must angle their wrist quite a bit in order to grip the frame. With the z-grip, the frame is angled, and as such, your wrist isn't.
There will be less wrist fatigue after a long day when using the z-grip.
Of course, when running or holding the marker at arm's length, the z-grip can get odd. However, many people play very tightly, and thus benefit from the angled frame. This doen't apply to all, as there are numerous shooting styles and postures, but many people who try the z-grip find it suits the quit well."My Jell-O is dying in the audience..."

Many people don't notice the genius of the z-grip. People who play speedball hold their paintball gun hella close and that will bend your wrist in an odd position with a normal frame. Outside the field most people hold their guns like a rifle so when they try the z-grip they think it's wrong.
