It "could" be bad. Remember what happened to Paintballcity.com? Got to big and Jim Murray had to convert it to a pay site. I just hope AGD doesn't see the need to do this. Probably won't happen since Jim Murray saw the need to add useless features, thus bumping up his monthly bill which he claimed to be $15,000.

if you dont own your own server, bandwith bills can reach $15k pretty fast.

Right now there are roughly 50 database connections open on this server. Which is no doubt putting extreme tax on the machine (assuming this machine is running more than one website), forcing other processes to fight for processor time. ISP's dont like this and will start charging you for that used processor space.
Thats just the least of a webmasters worries. All those cute little smilies we use..those are links to graphics stored on the server. Each one being pulled countless times during the day putting additional stress on the server.
Lastly, I used to run a small website that ran vbulletin. We only had 70 members on our boards, and we were doing 3gigabyte in bandwith transfer every month. It would not suprise me to find that this site uses 10gig or more monthly.

It all adds up fast, and big sites that get swarmed with hits can easliy reach that 10k mark due to machine, and bandwith fees.. The best solution is to lease your own line, and own your own server, to avoid those ISP fees.
"it constantly leaked from the 3 way. I bought all new pneumatics and the leak just moved. I sat down and looked over Ravi's cocker site and messed with it and it still did'nt work right. I took it to a local "cocker expert and it worked ok until I got it home. Needless to say I have never had the urge to throw something off a cliff more." - Load SM5 on owning an Autococker

Yep - AGD shelled out big bucks for a server to handle over twice the current load (maybe 3x). Its a monster. I dont know what the monthly bill is, but its not ever going to be enough where Tom will charge anyone a dime. He values it as a way to communicate with the users of his products.

And as for server load with the smilies etc, that is the main reason we arent running avatars - its just too good of a way to bog the site down. And just one more thing the mods have to make judgment calls on....

PAINTBALLA01 - What you put in for your location isn't exactly tasteful. How about changing it to your real location or nothing at all? I mean, potty humor was kinda funny in grade school, but there's no reason to have it here.
