As for the bottle, you can also take it to a fire extenguisher shop. Also, you can look at your states .gov webpage and look for hydrostatic testing. Washington has a list of all the DOT certified hydrostatic test facilities.

There will be a guy at world cup that will hydro and repair tanks on-site. If there was a way to send it down that would be best ..

kevmaster-the link works for me, but adobe acrobat keeps telling me I get an error when I try to open the MA .pdf file...that's odd.

they really cost that much $? that's absurd...especially the durability of the tank. I take it the replacement bottles are carbon fiber wrapped as well, right?

woa woa woa, hold onto your horses. you dont have to buy any new anything. carbon fiber bottles CAN be repaired. just take it to the place that hydroes it, or your local firestation, and ask em fer a place that can repair it. id try the firestation first because they have carbon fiber tanks that are scratched up a whole hell of a lot, and theyre always repaired.

Ok, ok...first things first...I'll have to have it tested somewhere...and I guess if I need a new bottle, I'll get a new bottle. I just hope the total expenses don't add up to more than $160 or so... I still need to locate a scuba shop. I'll have to check the yellow pages tommorow or something.

The answer is simple: Would you rather have a face or a nitro tank?
                that's a little extreme, isn't it?

stop right there, your gonna have to have it hydroed, but dont do that till you see if it can be repaired. it wont pass the visual inspection if you just check it in. you can find a place that does hydro testing (not always a scuba diving place) and a place that does repairs. call your local fire station and ask them. trust me, they usually have nothing better to do. (dont call 911 though, kinda pisses people off :P)

as for the list, tell me where you live. it works fine on my PDF, so tell me where you live and ill find some places around that. tell me a large city(not smalltown, but doesnt have to be boston).

when i tell you a place, give them a buzz and ask them what they charge(it should be around $10-20). then take it to them and they should do it within a few days. they will charge regardless of its passing or not. if it doesnt pass, dont press the issue. if it passes, ask if they know someone who can repair the nick in the glaze. as said, if the fiber is cut at all, its toasted regardless of iuts holding capacity

I'd prefer to go to one near Framingham, Natick, or Worcester....a friend told me of a scuba shop in Natick, I might end up going there.

is there any specific reason why your not gonna save your tank and get it repaired? i mean, do you just enjoy spending 100 dollars for a new tank?

who said I was replacing the bottle? If I can get it repaired, I'd definitely do that instead of getting a new bottle, but if I end up having to get a new bottle I'll buy one.

just get your phone book and find the non emergency number for the closest fire station. they always have aperson there to answer the phone, and theyll be glad as hell to tell you where they get their tanks hydroed and repaired

HalB, if the fibers are even so much as nicked, the tank is pretty much useless. you will not find anybody who will unglaze and rewarap a bottle for less than the cost of a new one.

small scratches are fine, and can be reglazed/filled. but the wrap cannot be repaired.
