    calling all e-mag users

sorry for the distracting title but i am down to the last moments of purchasing my next gun and i need a reliable review from someone who owns an e-mag (please note the word "owns" not just fired or tested). i would appreciate any of the questions you could answer and further comments are gladly welcome. thanks in advance

    (1) what is it about the weight of the e-mag? is it really that heavy or is this an exagerrated problem?

    (2) what are your thoughts/experiences with the LED display? what kind of info can/does it display? can the brightness be controlled (or can it be turned off) for night play?

    (3) how is the grip of the gun seeing as there are no grooves. i havent heard many positive things about it. will i be able to put another .45 grip on it and maybe cut a slot for the LED display?

    (4) this is a pretty big issue but does a stock e-mag really break paint to the point where it may prevent you from playing? ive heard from people that say they never experience ball breaks (even without the LVL10 mod) and some people where they had to return to gun since it was was too much like a high priced blending machine and it became unbearable.

    1) Not an issue at all. It is a little beefier tan comparable guns, but not all that bad, unless you have spaghetti arms.
2)LED-tells how many shots fired, blinks to let you know its on, will show which software, and will tell you if battery is low. I personally dont need a gin to tell me how warm it is, weather patterns, or to tell me nice little things to boost my ego. I think that most of the programmable info on Angels is useless...but thats my opinion.
3)People here make aftermarket grips. Frymarker comes to mind...other people make them as well. Do a search...you'll find a few.
    4) I have never had a problem with broken paint. I put the LX in there; but didnt really need it. I very rarely broke paint before; played in CT last spring, in the rain, and didnt have problems.
    X-mag #10. Nuff said.

      1) No Problem (but then the stock Emag is a little heavier then the Extreme I believe).
      2) Shots fired, game timer, ACE mode, shots per second limit. And no, you can't turn it off (unless using duct tape).
      3) I have grips made by LoadSM5, they rock!
      4) Didn't have any problems except for last weekend. I've shot a couple of cases ZAP and even Diablo Blaze without any breaks. Then last weekend I had to shoot Tomahawks and broke a lot of paint even with level 10. But the that paint also broke in two tippmans (not as bad though), in two F4s (completely jamming the guns in the process), in an E-Spyder and an Old-School Automag. So I guess the gun is not really to blame in this case...
      black Xtreme Emag
LVL 10 inside, warp feed left setup
green warp feed and green 12V Revvy with X-board (melted for warp hose)
      14" Freak kit
      Triggernomics blade trigger
AGD flatline 4.5k 68cui with green tank cover
green LED Display (thanks Have Blue)
clear grips with custom sledgehammer logo (made by Load SM5)

      to do list:

      - Get Triggernomics custom milling
      - Get Custom Anno

I have had a minimag since 1995, added another minimag with retrovalve and hyperframe, and then bought an emag.

1.) The emag is heavier than the hyperframed retro'd mini. It is the battery pack in the front, plain and simple. If you weight more than 150# and are moderately athletic, it shouldn't be that big a deal.

2.) Led display is pretty simple. Shows version of firmware, total shots fired, shots per second, mode, etc. It is a red led, when left alone, it displays "AGD 1.37". You might want to put a piece of black electric tape over it for 24hr games. There are some led replacements for it to change color (search forums, not from AGD) to blue, green, etc.

3.) Grip is okay. Some people have been making replacement grips for it for awhile. "The Frymarker" can even use a rubber compound and do flames on them. Check the dealer forum for that.

4.) I have never had the blender problem on mine. Don't get me wrong, I do sometimes break a couple (2-3) balls a day, but I am shooting a stock long nose bolt and don't have the best fingers. Make sure you get a good hopper if you don't already have one. ((I have a halo and mainly shoot a one piece CP barrel, which shoots clean after a couple shots. I loaned it to a guy who put a Revy and a Freak on it, and he complained that he broke 6 balls in one game. Not sure if it was equipment change, or he is just that astoundly fast on the trigger ??? ))

1 - I don't find it heavey. Mind you, I was brought up on a VM!

          2,3 - Same as above

4 - I broke 1 ball in 8000 on emode before LX. It tended to break more often in Manual or Hybrid, but that was solved with LX.

            1. well after a full day of woods ball i find mine a tad heavy, but it's loaded down with some extras (and I had spent the entire summer inactive due to a back injury). Overall it's not bad.

            2. Led tells ya what you need to know

            3. Mine was fine before i got FryMarker grips, and better after. I think that most people end up playing and holding the battery as a foregrip. Generally that means that you end up squeezing it between the two. When that happens grips aren't nessicary.

            4. Never broke a ball before I got lvl 10, still havent' afterward (needed to trade in a superbolt for credit). And Ive run some pretty cruddy 2nds thru the gun too.

              1. It "feels" heavier than it is because it is slightly backheavy and the stock grip frame is not very comfortable (thick and wide). Someone really needs to sell after-market parts for the lighter body rail and grip frame that come with the cut & colored Emags. The double-trigger frame also adds to the "feeling" because it's tricky to get a good grip on the gun without firing it unintentionally.

              2. LED display is not a big concern for me.

              3. I do not like the stock grips because they are flat and have no grooves. A shaped stock grip would make the grip harder to hold for me though given the thickness and width of the stock grip frame.

              4. I do not have the LVL10 and the only time I had balls chop was because the batteries in the hopper were fading and the only time I had balls break in the barrel was because the balls were too tight for my barrel. From my experience I just don't understand where the "paint blender" myth is coming from.

In short, I don't like the ergonomics of the stock E-mag (ideally, there should be a lighter version of the stock Emag, but without all the bells and whistles of the Extreme), but in terms of performance and reliability I like it better than my angel or autococker.

Just need to had something about the display: When the marker is on, only a small dot blinks, and is hence almost impossible to spot in the night.

Humm I weight less than 150 lbs (near 125 in fact), and still can play a whole day with my 10+ lbs EmagC&C-Angel AIR-HaloB-Warpfeed without any problems. It's good to know I'm more athletic than I tought .

The new stock in emags aren't heavy as the older emags. Their is a new ule frame that makes it a lot lighter. The new emags(not the xtreme) is about same as a SFL in weight.
