Why is it called a 'mag?

Just wondering......an autococker is called a autococker 'cause it recocks automatically after every shot, and a bushmaster is a bushmaster 'cause it sounds cool. So what is an automag-is there some hidden meaning, or does it mean something technical, or what?

    Dave,

Yes you are quite right, the original real gun was the insperation for the name of our gun. It was not the insperation for the design as we named it after we finished it. The original name during development was P3 for "Panther 3". The Panther was our first gun, there was a second blow back prototype named P2 then the proto that lead to the Mag.

                  Here's a pic of a .44 Automag

They do have strikin similarities. Note the Grip Frame/Trigger and it's position on the barrel/Hammer assembly

that's really a .44? it looks a bit weak to handle such a large round. the desert eagle is a massive gun built specifically to handle powerfully loaded pistol rounds(.357 magnum, .50 AE, etc.). it surprises me that a weapon so much smaller-looking can handle a similiarly powerful round

Wow, the 68 Automag and the .44 Automag have a startling resemblance.

                            .. No wonder
