Why do local paintball shops charge so much?

Why do local paintball store's charge so much for equipment? I called up 2 stores in Long Island tonight to find out prices for Freak kits. One store quoted me $250 for the kit and another store quoted $225? This was for the aluminum back not the SS. Online I saw it going for $189 shipped for the Alimunm and for the SS $214 shipped. I don't understand why they charge so much. Maybe its just here in NYC. Also I went to this store hmmmm don't want to mention any names but its the store on Hempstead L.I. for you New Yorkers, they seemed to be bias against Automags. They told me that this gun was out dated blah blah blah! Thank god for websites like this one!

I guess its the rent and other stuff they have to pay compared to stores online? I'm just trying to understand.

Yes, they don't sell as many items as the big online retailers, and thus must charge more to stay afloat.

Yes, it is about making a profit. Most online stores don't have the same bills to pay that Real World Stores have. Of course, if you have a problem, you can't just walk into an online store and hand them your marker and have them fix it.

Actually that is not quite true... they do so because they HAVE to... there is a difference. Trust me, if they could undercut online stores they WOULD.

i know. i cannot stand the high prices of pball stores. warped sportz is like my second home, but i dont buy expensive equipment from them. they tried charging me 1650 for my CnC ir3!!!! im like uhhh sorry im gonna go pay 1250 online.(i didnt really say it as it would have been pretty rude)Either way its sad though, i would love for them to have the same prices as online. Then i could go and buy it from them and support my local store alot more. sure they have to pay rent and stuff but cmon they are already making tons of profit off paintball stuff. it probably cost them 20 bucks a case wholesale for bigball. but they charge like 40-50. so i think they would end up makin more if they lowered their prices. then people like me would go buy ALOT of stuff from them instead of the net.

                          oh, i forgot to mention,

when me, biginternetstore.com buys 1000 (yes, thats the quantity the buy in) CnC Angels, they get a MUCH better price than joe the store owner who buys one when you order it. ican tell you. PBGear.com is selling Emags CHEAPER than my(im a wholesaler) wholesale cost by around $100! thats just one example. i cant even sell the marker at their price and BREAK EVEN.....thats why some companies, Lapco, CenterFlag, MacDev among others are adopting a "Lowest Advertised" pricing system to go along with their MSRP. if you are caught selling a marker beloew the LA price, you lose your dealership...thats it. i wish more companies would adopt this system. thats how the industry is going to sustain itself...with the LOCAL fields making the money, not PaintballGear.com or Shop4Paintball, etc...

The stores around here are the same way. Expect to pay 50-100 bucks more for some guns. Like SHartley said though, they got a lot of expenses. I, however, don't think they would be able to fix my gun if I brought it in for repair. They'd probably try to sell me a cocker and tell me it shoots farther than my outdated mag.

dont blame the stores, blame national paintball supply. they have a naziesque hold on the industry forcing prices to be high. also, maybe its because your local store sucks, mine does price matching with any store online, only bad part is that they include s&h, so after you add that all in the prices are actually so close ive never had to use that price matching. usually its off by 2 dollars, and its not worth the time of pulling up the website fer that.

i think these guys can tell this better than i can

this is a conversation regarding nps, pay attention to the last two posts, its between two store owners by then and they go by why they have to charge more, its not just because of rent
