I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure riccochets don't count even in tournaments. If the paintball hits anything before the player it's no dice. I don't dispute that it's rarely called, but I could've sworn it was a rule. Any confirmation?
is this cheating?

If you are hit by a paintball that came from somewhere on your field (you'll remember the recent scandle)and it leaves a paint mark you are out. It dosen't matter where it came from or what it bounced off of. If you are hit and it leaves a paint mark you are out.Originally posted by ShooterJM

I have to agree. It is too hard to tell if something was a ricochet or not. Also don't try to draw analogies with "real war". I mean you were hiding behind a thorn bush! If you really wanted to make it "real" you should consider yourself out since bullets wouldn't be stopped by a thorn bush (its your own logic taken out to the next level).Originally posted by FatMan
This ricochet thing is bogus! 9 times out of 10 when a bounced ball hits you you will not be able to tell if it was direct or a ricochet. I've never seen a rule like that in any type of play, including scenarios.
Sounds like and excuse to play on.

I understand where you are coming from. In woods games the difference between splatter and a hit is sometimes difficult to tell. If enough of the ball survived to hit me and make a splat I call myself out.ULE Body Level 10 Automag intelliframe + retrovalveComment

What about this rule "If a paintball strikes another object first and breaks upon that object before marking a player or anything he is wearing or carrying, such player is not eliminated."?Originally posted by TheTramp

If a paintball strikes something like a tree, bunker, or the ground it can be reasonably assumed that it's structural integrity has been compromised. Because it's impossible to tell if this has happened or not the player should always be ruled live. Not eliminated.Comment

The key phrase in that rule is "and breaks upon that object..." If it broke on something first then it is splatter not a hit (of course if you have a mark bigger than a quarter and shell on you you'll probably be called out unless the ref. was looking right at you). If the ball is intact and breaks on you you'll be called out. People get eliminated by balls that bounce off Sup-Air bunkers all of the time. As long as the ball is intact (even with weakened "structural integrity") and it breaks on you or you equipment then you're out.Originally posted by ShooterJM

Lots of angry people in here, i go buy the nickel/quarter rule, pick one, as the field, or if rogue friends, and go with it. I also check for things such as amount of shell, if it's spray, the shell is often finer, and there isn't much of it, while direct hits usually have chunks of shell in it. You really didn't cheat because it wasn't your intention, at the moment you made the best decision you could while being shot at, in the future just keep some of these suggestions in mind or call a ref or another player to check.I like paintball.Comment

i dont see why everyone gets mad for these guys playing with richochet rules. I mean if that is how they play then good for them. and when you play in the woods there are no refs to do a paint check so you have to make your own judgement call. If you didnt realize it was a direct hit then you could always claim ignorance. That gets me off the hook with my friends. But i dont think it really is cheating because cheat is dont intetionally. Yours was because you thought it was splatter. Broke the rules yes, cheat no.Why doesnt anything work for me.Comment

Brak - a.) you can delete threads that you created. Just go to the first post, click "edit" then check the box in the upper right corner marked "delete". That's it. and b.) I wasn't going to turn this into a cyberspace edition of our long-running joke. That horse was dead, beaten, rotted, exploded into bits, etc., etc. a LOOOONG time ago.Originally posted by Brak

Re: is this cheating?
They don't count at my field either. I think it is a bad idea, it's VERY hard to really know what happened. I think you should have called yourself out. After all, you did not know that it was a ricochet. However, if you believed at the time that you were following the rules you did not cheat. You may be guilty of bad judgement, but not a cheater.Originally posted by Brak
I figure it's a ricochet ..ricochets don't count

I'm cool. The thing about "not turning it into a goat molesting fest..." sounded to me like you were pissed, or trying to keep the thread dead serious. Whatever. It'll be funny after a year has passed, though.Originally posted by Brak
