custom 98 upgrade?

ok i have an old skool model 98. therefore many upgrades are not easily accessable to me. the flatline barrel is a nice distance improvement but hardly worth the money unless its $70 or less. another pro is it looks cool especially without the sheath :). if you have the money of course you should get all tippmann has to offer. the low pressure kit looks nice and will cut down your gas costs. the response trigger is a MUST and the electronic conversion is nifty. oh and do yourself a favor and get a new cocking system. i have the full boar flush cocking system. its like a beaver tail cocking system without the beaver tail. so you can hold the gun closer to your face and though im not sure i think a rear cocking system is better than a side cocking system which is standard on the model 98. a drop forward is always nice. and get nitro if you havent already.

the rt (response trigger) is just like on the e-mag. there is a pin behind the trigger which helps you fire faster by pushing trigger forward after you pull. if you follow me it takes longer for a trigger to return to its default position using the force of the springs in the trigger. so by resetting the trigger faster you can pull faster. everyone ive seen use the response trigger is very pleased. though at times it may be too reactive like on my friends gun where he just pulls and it goes automatic. which is why some areas ban them. he likes to hold the trigger and sweep left to right :) very devastating and surprising to the unprepared.

i play at pevs and i havent heard of it being banned. my friend is getting an rt kit for his tippy so i guess we'll find out after he gets it =P

My first gun was a 98C. Do yourself a favor and don't pile a bunch of money into that gun. You can easily spend several hundred dollars on upgrades and you will never get any money back out of it. If I were you I would buy a double trigger and a nitro bottle and save money for a good gun. M98's are great beginner guns. I kept mine as a loaner. You will most likely want a nicer gun in the future.

A few other upgrades you may want to make that worked well for me were:
Nitro (I didn't think it was going to make that big of a difference but it did)

Motorized hopper (let's face it once you get one, you always have to use it)

X-chamber (if you're not going to nitro)

Double Trigger (that was more of a feel thing to me rather than functionality thing)

Those are just a few ideas to hopefully get you started.

I've had experience with this gun for a while, here's my opinions:

1) flatline is not worth it, its big, funky, and tragectory is off the wall.

2) Two finger trigger is cheap, but not sure if it will help you much on a m98

3) Put a "bumper" in between your tank adapter and grip frame. I put a few pieces of foam there on mine. It helps absorb the vibrations from shooting the gun so the sound doesn't travel toyour steel tank. Helps reduce the "ping" sound greatly (if quiet is your thing).

4) Dropforward is nice and fairly cheap.

5) dye stickies

6) if you still need a barrel J&J ceremic is the best for the buck, it's flawless

7) scrap the whole thing and work on getting a different gun. Don't pump a lot of money into this gun its a good beginner's gun, but thats what it is. Could always keep it as a backup but you'll regret pumping hundreds of $ into this and think its good then once you pick up a mag/impulse or anything else and use it you'll regret spending all that money.

From switching to my m98 to my mag it was like night and day. I never knew how a good marker was supposed to perform until that. My friend has a spyder tl plus and today he shot my mag for the first time he said "Holy crap this is 40x better than my spyder in just the trigger pull alone!"

dont worry, this is not my gun that is going to be worked on, its my dads, he isnt going to buy a mag so he is just going to upgrade it.

I had a model 98c for a few years, great gun, never breaks down. A list of the upgrades i had before i sold it are.

1. Full-Boar Flush cocking
2. Lapco Bigshot
3. 12v Revvy
4. Flatline (Still have it if you wanna buy it)
5. Double trigger

I highly recommend the Bigshot, it's a great barrel really easy on paint. I could shoot anything outta it no matter how old or brittle. I also liked the Full-boar keeps all the crud outta your gun.

Bought all my upgrades @ countypaintball.com they rock

about the people who say its only a beginners gun. well first of all you get what you pay for. its $150 for christ sake. of course its not as good compared to a $800 e-mag. also maybe initially so but have you ever played against one with a response trigger? my friend plays actively at pevs and it isnt banned yet so dont worry about that. if youve ever played against a model 98 custom with response trigger you cannot admit you werent shocked. i swear the moment i was about to bunker this guy and he popped up and rattled off what seemed like 20 BPS i wished i waited and bought a custom so i could have upgraded. its a force to be reckoned with.

edit: just remembered. pevs only allows 3 shot bursts and if you have a response trigger they want you to limit it to 7 shot streams so if you hit somebody they dont get OVER pummeled :)
