2 peace barrel lengths; let me get this strait!

I am planning on getting the J&J edge barrel kit It seams to be the best value barrel kit at 4 backs for $114. I would prefer to get the 10-inch version for a more compact setup. I realize that with the shorter length it will be louder. It seems as though it would affect efficiency as well. I have heard that porting helps vent the air in front of the ball, causing a smooth transition to the air outside of the barrel making for fewer curveballs (The Idea behind the Crown Point barrel). Will a shorter tip make the porting less effective in preventing curve balls? Obviously I would like it to be as accurate as possible.

    Please provide feedback. Thank you!
    Peace :)

porting only effects sound really. it has no effect on accuracy, and if you intend on playing speedball sound doesnt matter terribly either so i would go with whatever length your comfortable with.

If I may make a suggestion, get a 16 inch tip, I have turned the 10 inch users to 16 and they thank me for it, there is an article on p8ntballer.com that talks about this whole argument and if you play correctly the 10 inch is just a hinderance....

cant manipulate sup air bunkers, cant use it as a "turret" on hyperball and if you play in the bush cant really stick it through stick bunkers

        just my 2 pennies

16 is wayyy too long IMO. I guess it depends on what position you play and where you play in. I play both in the woods and in speedball fields, and I found that a 12" barrel is a good length to use for either type of field. What barrel are you using now, if I may ask? Go with the length you like best.

I have a 14-inch J&J ceramic on my Mag. On my procarb I have an 11.5-inch big shot and the 10-inch stock barrel. I do not have a preference yet. I am leaning toward a 10-inch because I feel that my 14-inch slows me down when trying to snap shoot in a tight place. blnk162 you do make a good point. I have never played on a sup air field nor have I played on a hyper ball field (I do not know what a hyper ball field is). With my experience in woods ball, I can really see the value in having six more inches to shoot from a stick bunker. How much do tips cost when sold separately from the edge kit? It might be worth the money to get a 10-inch and a 16-inch for the sake of experimentation.
            Peace :)

a shorter barrel will be better on gas, and you can get closer to bunkers without slamming your barrel against them.

The nice thing about these barrels
is that you can get different length
                tip's and use whatever suit's you're
                need's at any given time.
                check the sig.

                  man if i only knew....

I have a j&j edge kit for my mag and LOVE IT.

If i knew they had them for 114 at paintball discounters i never would have bought that freak for 150... (ebay came with autococker and automag backs)

ah well, I still have my mag J&J so life is good

on effeciency, i have a 14" and a 10" front and it makes no difference on those. on my 68 4500 i get 1200-1300 shots off either tip...
