dug up my old automag video.. idea(s) popped

in the video tom talks about crown point barrels and how they wanted the barrel to fade away becasue sometimes without venting on a barrel, the balls kink sideways when they reached the outside air. Was this idea true or was this paintball marketing; that is what popped into my head at first.

Then I thought: so what else could make a ball kink sideways? (besides a ball break)

then i thought: Does a barrel detent/ ball detent create side spin and sometimes make balls curve? ie magnus effect sideways....

if this side magnus effect can happen: then maybe it might be what you see at the very end of flight of the ball; where it seems to have a consistant oneside curve usually...
( i see this sometimes but usually its with a higher quality of paint and its only sometimes)

These were just some thoughts... no real science just some thought pondering.... "so does fading the barrel away"(ie crown point barrel) work?

then i thought of cockers;... and how they fire without really any ball detent friction( bolt is front of ball detent when fired....

    just some random thoughts
if you would like publicly ponder my random thoughts... well i guess that is why i am posting it.

No, the "fading barrel" doesn't work.

There's a shot of high-speed film showing that there's is NO forward barrel pressure. Basically, it showed a line of smoke, and a paintball emerging from the barrel. The line of smoke is, in fact, undisturbed.

I don't think that detents have any effect on a ball's spin. Any tiny amount that might be imparted on a ball is probably stopped by barrel friction.

    Pondering is good tho
