                  Some Advice

                  First off your bodies are looking great! Keep up the great work.

                  I do have some question for you though. I know this may sound silly but I have a drill press (nothing fancy) and I was wondering if I could do some small parts with it? The head at its fastest spins at 3100 RPMs. My main question is what type of cutting heads are you using? I am sure they are expensive but for what I want to do I would only need a few small ones. Is there a place I can purchase them at a reasonable cost? Or, will what I am using even work for what I want to do? Lots of questions and maybe I should just email you.

                  Thank you for your time in answering my crazy questions.

                  P.S. Wow I didnt know those machines weighed in at over a ton!

                  [edit]Will any of these work? Cutters Thanks again.[end edit]

                      Snake, the spindle on your drill press is just not rigid enough to keep the cutting tool from moving around, they are only made to bore a hole, not to side cut. At least you would have a very rough finish with lots of cutter marks and at worst you could break the cutting tool (they are very hard and brittle) and mess up the part you are working on.

                        Yeh I kinda left the thread hang for a while, cause I
                        got real busy with a bunch of stuff.
                        But Snake what boggerman said is true, and very few
                        drill presses have any kind of controllable motion
                        in any but the Z Axis. You need a lot more than that,
                        to consider doing one of these.
                        A knee mill is controllable in
                        X axis {side to side as you stand in front of the machine}
                        Y axis {front to back}
                        Z axis {up and down}
                        Z axis is actualy controlled in 2 way's,
                        you can move the quill like a drill press,
                        or you can lock the quill and move the whole
                        table up and down.
                        Even with this much control over what you're
                        doing, you end up with tool mark's that have
                        to be polished before a part can be called
                        complete.

                            Actually Foo
                            I thought I answered this, but I guess that was
                            in my other thread. Basically all my bodies will
                            have the same general look. But No Two Will Ever
                            Be Identical. If you have an idea as to how you
                            want you're body embellished, if it's do'able
                            on my machine without adding a lot of hour's
                            of machining time. Ive pretty much decided that
                            All AO'ers can can have my machining on they're
                            bodies done for $100.00 + shipping. If you want
                            me to install The feed neck and ball detent,
                            Those part's are extra $$.
                            We can talk about that in P.M.'s

                              ohhh... so every design IS new... heh, that's cool how you're not really mass producing the same body but just similar looking bodies... Nothing radically different like a different shape then huh? I wasn't really thinking radically complicated. Just wondering if you were going to try new things in the future.

                                Well
                                actualy what I'm doing is basically the same on
                                every body I do.
                                But if you read the commentary on the pic's
                                you'll realize I only take 2 measurement's in
                                the whole process, Right side/Left side .035 minimum
                                everything else is done by EYE. That mean's My
                                20 yr's of experience looking at what I have on
                                my machine, and how it look's to me when I set it up
                                for cutting. So even though they may look the same,
                                no two cut's are ever going to be the same.
                                I'm just expressing my art through my machine.
