Does dump chamber shape affect how fast it empties?

    Hi everyone,

After some discussion, I figured I'd get some additional answers here.

    So I'd like to ask:

    1) Does a dump chamber's shape affect how fast it empties?
    2) If so, what are the factors?

    Thanks everyone.

I gotta tell ya, this post is uncool. Popular Opinoin is not always correct. Especially on subjects like this. (IE: LP, CO2, Regulators, engine tuning)

The chamber that is the working volume of the dump chamber is the entire space behind the opening that can be defined without exceeding the aera of the opening. As soon as a place bottlenecks down to less than that, then that space will not empty in a timely fashion.

For that reason, the air in the hose or the ASA on a cocker leading to the valve chamber doesn't count for valve chamber size. Neither does the air in the on/off on a mag.

If your output is too close to an edge, or your dump chamber is shaped to produce shockwaves you could run into some interesting flow issues. For the most part, the shape of the chamber is irelevent. it could be s-shaped, it could be l shaped, it could be t shaped, it could be cup shaped (like the matrix..) it could be the traditional bottle shape like an automag.

What I'm really wondering is why this question even came up in the first place.

In what way? He didn't put forword any opinion at all, he asked a question

What I'm really wondering is why this question even came up in the first place.
So he could get information on a subject with which he was unfamiliar. Perhaps he may have been interested in gaining knowledge so he could form an opinion.

My displeasure is based on the fact he came on IRC, spoke to my friend, went an spouted off about a subject he was unfamilliar with, came back calling this person a liar, and then after clarification, and being directed at the proper sources to find information took the lasy way out and decided to ask the AO populace at large.

The "usual" responce will be yes. And that's true on some level. The truth of the matter is no. so long as you dont' put any choke points in the dump chamber it can be any shape you please.

There is no opinion to form... You can have a very "unusual" dump chamber shape and have it preform every bit as well as a "regular" shape.

Your friend must have misinformed you about what he told me, because I was told (in no uncertain terms) something entirely different. I suppose I'm easily impressed and I took his word for it.

You're telling me that I should go and do my homework on a subject before I go "spout[ing] off". You're right. So here I am asking the community rather than taking your word for it. I didn't bring up ANYTHING else except my question.

So let me get this straight:
            1) You're mad because I didn't do my homework.
            2) You're mad because I am doing my homework.

Am I the only one who thinks something is wrong here?

You took his word for it. You didn't understand the concepts behind it.

Instead of doing the independant research, you came to a public forum.

My next post will cite books you can find in your local libaray.
