    My first tournament tomorrow

Tomorrow is my first tournament, 3 man for new tournament players only (only first time tournament players can play). 30 teams, we get at least 5 games each. Bad thing though is it supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so should it happen, the tournament most likely will be played in all rain. Anybody have any advice for playing in the rain, I've never really played before in it.

I'm really excited though, as it's my first tourney, played a long time with rec and all, so I'm really looking forward to this. Anybody got some advice for the first time tournament player? I just hope everything works great tomorrow for me and my team, and I hope to have fun. And if we win, even better. Go Team Ivy (I didn't make the name, heh)!

the best 3 man advice i have is that if its like most the
prizes are ok but nothing crazy...so
    easy on paint
    easy on paint
    easy on paint

if u shoot a lot of paint and win u will not break even
i know thats probably not a big deal but
for a 3 man we usually only go though 1-2 cases of paint for 6 games and finals.

    thats 3 man theory
no for 5-7-10 just shoot shoot shoot lol
    good luck

Heh thanks for the compliment on the name. There not any prizes besides trophies for the top teams and a case of paint for each player on the 1st place team. I figure to use at least a case, 2 at most.

Just remember to try and keep your gear as dry as possible between games and make sure you switch out paint that is in your pods with new stuff if you have the chance. Wet paint will swell up and you will end up haveing accuracy issues as well as possible breach,barrel/paint fit. Be careful with any slides. You may think you are sliding at the right time but if there is mud you could end up missing your bunker or even worse, slide into one and get hurt. The last thing you want is to be carted off the field and sent to the hospital because you slid into a bunker

As for Tourney play in general. like it has been said above. Communication is the most important point. Make sure your back player has the voice to cover the field and is able to keep talking. Keep calling out positions, movement and any codes you have came up with. If you are hit make sure you yell out loud so your team mates will know they are now down a player. Back Player: keep track of how many are left on the other team. It is easy in 3 man but it really sucks if you think there all eleminated and just before you walk in with the flag hang you get hammered by someone curled up in a bunker.

Watch as many of the other matches as possible. Make mental and even writen notes about the other teams. If you see a team play three or four games and they always stack one side or the other note that. If you notice that the same players go to the same bunkers in every game, note that. If you can hear the back player calling out codes, definatlly note that. That is not cheating, it is scouting your team. That will give you a big advantage when you are out on the field.

Most important of all, Have Fun. If you find yourself getting shot out and getting really mad about it, it's not worth playing any longer, might as well pack you gear and go home. Once you get that mind set about the game you will end up loseing focus and keep on getting shot out and loseing matches.

            Good Luck
            Tack.

Thanks for the advice Tack. My team and I would scout our opponents, but they've scheduled it so that your in groups, and every group plays at the same time, which is fair I think. We will however scout the other teams playing on which fields we're supposed to play on, that way we can see how the field plays and all.

Good. Also, get there as early as you can. Walk the fields. The best thing to do when you are walking is to look for the lanes. Also try to build an idea about your first moves. The best thing to do is to already have a first move planed before you step on the field. Be ready but also don't be surprised if your plan goes out the window. The best teams are usually the ones who plan for the best but expect the worst. Be flexiable, think fast, and most of all, keep your cool.

Support one another between games. If you lost because one of your team steped out from behind cover and got shot out allowing a flanking move, don't jump him about it. It's your first tourney, you are supposed to do that sometimes.

Keep control of your body. I played in a tourney a couple years back (My first tourney, of course it had to be an open event that drew most of the big teams from Missouri) I thought I was compleatly behind cover while I was shooting. The only thing I knew was sticking out was my gun, hopper, and part of a elbow and one eye. Unbeknownst to me my right foot was sticking out of the bunker and a luckey paintball droped over top of the lower front bunkers and hit the tip of my foot. It really sucked but what can you do.

Also, thank the reffs and shake hands with the other team. Don't know if your tourney will have any sportsmanship awards but it is always a good thing. Don't aim for the award but make sure your team is among the ones that the refs have to pick from for it. That will give you more status in many reffs eyes than a first place team that used shady, gray area tactics to win. (Believe me, I reff local tourneys and the more you smile, laugh, and have fun with the people you are playing with, the better off you are in their eyes).

Play fair and clean. If you are the fairest team out there the reffs will see that and you never know, If in the finals a strange situation presents itself a team that plays clean and good will get the benifit of the doubt more often than not.

ive actaully found hat the shoot, shoot, shoot method is even better for 3 mans. it seems to work best if you ask me.

in my experience, have three guys shooting the lanes on the break. if you get one of their two back guys out, then you will be in a much better position as one of their flanks will be gone and you cna then press that side. from all the games ive seen, 90-95% of them are lost by the team who loses the first player. That said, make sure you get them first! how to do that? shoot them off the break

once the break is done, i typically send one of those three guys (from the middle) up to the 40 or the 50 depending on the angles. PRESS, PRESS, PRESS. thast the goal of 3 man after the break. you have to keep moving up. If you can keep your head out for 5 secs, you should have already moved.

Communication. work out codes for "i need cover", "im moving", "im reloading", "go!" and similar things. Keep talking with each other where they are. if you see someone move, fire on them, then tell the team that the guy moved from the back right to the center 40.

Then just hope you do well. its your first tournament. Youre communication will be youre biggest downfall if youre team is anything like ours was. Go out, have fun. Dont expect to win. Youll be disapointed. just go out and have fun with your friends and enjoy your experience. maybe learn a little bit too. and also, expect to get your asses handed to you a couple of times.
