The NPPL Super 7 at Huntington Beach is by far the BEST tournament I have EVER seen for paintball. The venue, the way it was ran, the refs, the players; was just outstanding! The tournament drew outside spectators to view the games. Lots of foot traffic. There was actually CONCRETE! No dust bowl! It took paintball out of the backyards and into the public.
As you can see from the picture above, if any paint made it over the netting, they had a crew to clean it up! I give them lots of respect for that.
Due to the bunker setup on the fields, the games were fast moving. The layout prevented "back guy stand-offs". It will take some adjusting for teams, but in the long run it will make the games more exciting. The netting was about 30-40 feet high. There was even netting around part of the pier.
The only semi-bad thing was the lack of vendors. There was only a few big name vendors; unlike some of the other events. However, that was to be expected since the Super 7 is something new and companies don't know which would be more worth-while for them. I still don't know why Fugi Films was there...
There was movie crews interviewing people and shooting throughout the day.
One last bad thing about the event. They had a stage with live music right next to one of the playing fields. The band was playing while a game was going on, which made it impossible for on field communications without using some type of hand signals. If they change anything, I hope it would be that.
