Closed bolt- The bolt is in the closed position. as in, if you look into the chamber of a closed bolt gun, you cant. You will see the bolt.

    Open bolt- the exact opposite

    Pretty simple...

open bolt, like your mag, the balls fall freely into the breach, after the marker is fired, the bolt is held back.

Closed bolt, the marker, like a cocker, shocker, and excal, the bolt is held olny open after the bolt is shot, then it closes, as it closes, it allows the next ball to fall into the breach. when you look down in to it, you see the top of the bolt, unless you pull the bolt back.

thats a little simpler to understand, dont ya think?

Closed bolt: The breech is closed off from the feed tube because the bolt is forward.

Open bolt: The breech is open to the feed tube because the bolt is back.

Yeah... I may have worded it wrong, I had no idea what open and closed is in the first place. Plus this thread was for someone else who wanted to know but I learned something new too

btw, being a post whore made me go from knowing absolutly nothing to knowing a ton of info about general things in a VERY short period of time. This topic just wasnt one of those that came up in AO

Closed or Open bolt refers to the position of the bolt in relation to the chamber when the marker is "cocked" and waiting for the operator to pull the trigger to fire it.

"Closed Bolt" means the bolt is forward and the chamber is literally closed off, "Open Bolt" means the chamber is wide open and the bolt is locked back.

It is a timeless debate that one is more accurate then the other. But paintballs being what they are, water ballons that deform under air pressure, neither system proves to have any advantage over the other in relation to accuracy.

The one thing that will affect accuracy other then the operator's skill (or lack thereof) is the paint to barrel match.
