permanent marker on SS mag body?

    Hey everyone...just an interesting question...

I've got a grey h/l body on my all black mag, and I'd like to have a black body on there. I plan on cutting down the feed tube (it's got a warp) and I was wondering...

is there anything wrong with just coloring it in with a black permanent marker? the surface of the bead-blasted stainless steel is perfect, and will give it a nice flat black color to go along with the rest...I'm just trying to find a way not to spend $120 on a new body with just a color change (hey, I'm in college :) )

anyway, any concerns out there? Weakening the steel? fumes from the marker? Any input appreciated:)

lol, I dont know of anything, contact the manufacterer and ask if their markers can corrode metal

at least now you can easily touch up those spots :)

You COULD get it powdercoated for a couple bucks... don't remember where, but I know a couple people around here do it, ask about it.

Marker will look absolutely crappy, will not hold up, may actually run when wet (despite being "permanant"), you will never get an even finish, and black stuff will get all over your fingers and hands...

...not to mention, that would be the most noob thing ever:)

                Powder coat it

I have a friend, who lives in Fairbanks Alaska who powder coats markers. If you are interested please PM me. My marker has just been posted on "Official Automag pics" thread today. Look there if you are interested. He also was the one who powder coated AO member "Drewstair" Micro emag. Do a search and take a look.

naw naw naw, Fire blacken it, dip it in oil and then put it in a hot flame. A few tries at this and voila, fireblackened.

It doesn't cost much to get a single color poweder-coat. I think I remember someone was doing black mainbodies for $20 + shipping both ways for one.

black marker wouldn't go on evenly. It would look like crap.

...if looks aren't your concern, then by all means, go for it

K&P Customs(also PM name) will powdercoat a mag body for $10 plus shipping. I'm pretty sure their website is www.kpcustoms.net but if it's not, look up the website under K&P Custom's profile. Good luck.
